You might ask that from Linksys :wink:

To my knowledge, the "Wrt" reflects the original wrt54g series and the availability of the GPL based open sources for the router, which served as the startin point for OpenWrt in 2004.

The first OpenWrt versions were based on Linksys GPL sources for WRT54G and a buildroot from the uclibc project.

By the way... many people instinctively mis-spell OpenWrt.

WRONG:
OPENWRT
openwrt
openWRT
OPENwrt
Openwrt
OpenWRT

RIGHT:
OpenWrt

Many ways to spell it wrong, only one way to spell it correctly.
In case you are unsure about the correct writing, just look at the OpenWrt logo at the top of the forum or the wiki.

But https://openwrt.org/trademark shows that the OpenWrt name is a trademark... :wink:

Now that we know what it means, it leads to the next question... how do you pronounce "OpenWrt"? :thinking: Open Wirt? Open Wart? (ew :face_vomiting:) Open W-R-T?
