Yep, I just went ahead and bit the bullet and bought a pair off Adafruit. Hard to source parts cheaper so might as well buy it pre-made and save the hassle. A part of me just laughed to myself when I bricked it because I knew I shoulda bought it when I bought the router, knowing I'll inevitably have to learn how to do a serial flash. A learning experience I'm going with! Haha
I have exactly the same jumper cable, and it do not fit by default.
This is how I make it fit.
Determine the correct pin order at the router end. Remove the plastic of two pins in alternate way, so that there will not be short circuit between two adjacent pins.
That will fit.
Picked up one of these off Spamazon and installation with RC2 was relatively painless. (I haven't found the "fallback to USB stick" boot command however; that would be nice in case I hose myself, since I DO have the stick with the good initfs firmware on it!)
Having trouble with getting VLANs to work on this thing -- I lose connectivity immediately on the LAN side if I attempt to set up VLAN 1 as untagged, default on the ports (VLAN 3 tagged as well, which I intend to use for a second SSID) both over the same physical jack of course.
Done through Luci it reverts on its own when it doesn't stay linked but if I do it manually (e.g. vi via ssh) using the same config that I used on a RT-AX53U I wind up having to hard-reset since that's an actual change in the config files. Posted a note on it here; is there something difference with the switch in these that makes for a different configuration requirement? OpenWRT on Dynalink WRX36 VLAN Problems

Ps. note that ipq807x/generic has been renamed as qualcommax/ipq807x, so be careful with the image names so that the command and the file on stick match.
Aha -- got it; I can fix it from ssh.. I did rename the stick image so will make sure its correct..... this assumes I can figure out what is going on with the VLAN issues, as otherwise in my application this thing does me no good at all.
buy 2mm pitch connector instead.
https://www.amazon.com/2mm-pitch/s?k=2mm+pitch
one such jumper wire
That is a clever way of using more common 2.54 connector for serial and it saves money and time.
I did this with mine too. I am no longer scared of bricking
I checked the problem with the txpower
parameter and it still occurs in the latest firmware version (2.9.0.1-01862).
For channels 36-48 and country US
we have 30dBm limit in firmware.
After manually setting a fixed limit of 30dBm iw phy0 set txpower fixed 3000
we have info:

Value 51
is reported not 60
. Could this be a problem inside the firmware?
The same problem occurs with the ath11k firmware used by Dynalink in their official releases.
On official Dynalink firmware, dBm values are reported correctly with the same firmware.
I have found an issue with WiFi. Possible Ath11k bug.
Please check it.
I'm not sure if this is a mass bug or only issue found in my setup.
I am trying to build a custom MAIN / MASTER SNAPSHOT image using Image Builder and I am getting the following error. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: SOLUTION: Looks like the package "file" is missing from the repos. I was confused about which package file is causing the issue, but turns out it is the package named "file" itself causing the issue. Removing "file" from the list of packages solved the issue.
ok so i tried to follow the installation manual line by line and now im with a bricked router. is there an explanation on how to perform a recovery? i am unsure where something went wrong but i can no longer connect to the router in any way even after factory resetting it from the pin-hole on the back. any help would be appreciated
That would be the serial port, it's also in the wiki.
You can redo the install, once you've got serial access.
@Crect @otnert do you still have this issue? i went back to firwmare WLAN.HK.2.7.0.1-01744 and this issue dissapeared together with a number of other issues like disconnects
Not quite sure if I had that same issue, I was getting a...
It's been 3 days since that post, and all seems to be behaving as expected, however there is one 2.4G troublesome device that seems to disconnect randomly.
Tried 2.7 to no avail and 2.6 after but both fail to bring up the wifi interfaces on AX3600. Might be because of the vlan patch I'm using but I don't know.
Luckily more and more Filogic devices are popping up. Planning to buy one of those and finally leave that Qualcomm misery behind me once and for all.
I was able to follow this guide and get openwrt installed. I am having an issue though when trying to enable both radios. And I don't see how to change channels. I had the 5Ghz working at first, but then I enabled the 2.4 radio, and now the 5Ghz doesn't show up. What am I missing? And on both, I see other screenshots, that there should be a dropdown for channel next to channel width, but I don't see that here.
Make sure that you upgrade to the latest FW version, an issue with radios not turning on after boot appeared with a recent change a few days ago, but is fixed in the last FW version.
Also see if you have the same country in both radios.
Everything is working here.
Ok yes I think this is my problem. I installed image from June-15 which was linked from @borgqueenx noob-friendly post https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/ipq807x/generic/, but I see that the newer version is a different image now at https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/qualcommax/ipq807x/
I downloaded sysupgrade but am getting some warnings, so am scared to hit flash. What is best way to swtich to this new image? I don't need any settings from the old one really.
Did you download https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/qualcommax/ipq807x/openwrt-qualcommax-ipq807x-dynalink_dl-wrx36-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin? Seems you show compex image above.
