Hi,
I read that finally the Xiaomi AX3600 is officially supported although with some problems. Do you recommend me to flash openWRT or wait until the problems are fixed? I use it as my main device and need reliability.
Thanks.
Only the wpad is a problem, the other are lack of functionality in the Qualcomm open source code.
Thank you. Is there a possibility to make the other functions work in the future?
Hi folks,
I just tried to install OpenWrt as describred here: https://openwrt.org/toh/xiaomi/ax3600#tab__manual_method
Came to the step of realise the ssh access and then copying the *.ubi file to /tmp directory. All went fine, but after reboot, the access to the router failed. Got an IP adress, but not able to ping the device or establish a ssh connect. What might be the best way to proceed?
thanks!
Andy
They're not really "issues", but functionality/feature gaps in the code.
No one knows I'd they'll ever get "fixed".
The devices work anyway, only suboptimally.
I use two WRX36s, as APs, using the same SoC, those issues haven't caused me any problems. They had an uptime of almost a year, but it was ruined by a power outage.
If you require reliability, then I recommend you choose a different router.
Although the Xiaomi is pretty powerful, any problems that arise will mean that you never know whether they are caused by your configuration choices or a problem in the OpenWrt firmware.
The xiaomi ax3600 is fine, just that there are better options (e.g. dl-wrx36) now, for less - and ipq8071a vs ipq8072a is a quite significant step up.
I read lots of posts in the now closed General OpenWrt support for Xiaomi AX3600 (Part 2) thread that mentioning upgrading from @robimarko builds to official firmware many people have (soft) bricked their devices.
Are there any recommendations on particular build to upgrade to or steps to take (e.g. stop wpad)?
My current firmware versions are old.:
OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r0-977427f /
OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r0-679200d / LuCI Master git-22.260.19132-34dd31a
I will note that uptime is 102 days, so pretty happy with that.
Hi folks,
just made an attended sysupgrade via luci on my Xiaomi AX3600 from version 23.05.2.
Device is running, but no more reachable.... no ping, no ssh, no luci...
May be important; this is not the main router. Act as a dump AP with fix IP-adress...
It looks like, that the IP-Adress changed or the firewall is now on and reject all incoming traffic ...
any ideas?
thanks and best
Andrew
So I attempted to upgrade SNAPSHOT r0-679200d, using 23.05.3 firmware by following Upgrading OpenWrt firmware using CLI instructions.
First attempt failed to update the firmware.
I ran service wpad stop
and sysupgrade
succeeded, however router soft bricked (solid orange light).
I was able to recover, by following the TFTP recovery debricking instructions on the Xiaomi Mi AIoT Router AX3600 wiki page.
After restoring the stock firmware and enabling ssh, I was able to successfully install OpenWrt.
I wonder if the problem is that the build was not using a 'unified rootfs'.
When I upgrade the second router, I will try this suggestion:
I've also been running Xiaomi AX3600 a few years on unofficial build and once that memory leak issue was fixed it's been running solid. Now noticing this is officially supported naively went to sysupgrade (did stop wpad first at least) and after that it no longer booted.
So went to do factory reset/tftp recovery and while cumbersome it would've been a fairly straight forward if not for one thing.. I don't want to install Xiaomi's mobile apps to setup the router and seemingly no matter where I plugged it into the setup UI kept saying "未检测到入户网线 / No incoming network cable detected". In hindsight I recall having the same problem when installing openwrt the first time but not before spending probably another hour or two trying to get past this issue.
Not sure if I should be trying to get wiki contributors rights just for this but if someone else wouldn't mind it'd be nice if under Obtain SSH access where it says "Setup the router admin password (quick way is using the mobile setup app)" it also said that:
If in the setup web UI you get an error "未检测到入户网线 / No incoming network cable detected" there is a link under the blue button to "configure without plugging in the network cable".
Since it's only in Chinese people might not realize it's there, I missed it even with translation turned on (maybe thinking it was a documentation link )
Also if there's no obvious fix for the sysupgrade softbricking old snapshots a warning about that maybe with a link to this thread could be useful?
