but ifconfig does not show wlan1 anymore, therfore wifi does not work.

Guess you need to install kmod and perhaps firmware package for the radio...

0e8d:7612 appears to be MT7612.

I'd agree. Updating OpenWRT removes all of your installed packages, you probably had a package installed that provided the neccesary kernel modules (drivers) for this wifi card.

kmod is complaining it can't load the relevant modules:

Is your usb Ethernet working? If so then you likely have the basic usb networking support installed.

Can you post a list of all the packages you’ve installed? There’s a lot in the bootlog that appear irrelevant, like serial support etc?

yes usb ethernet works, else id have no internet.

Quite possibly, the model of wireless dongle you have is no longer supported, and to be honest, wifi dongles for AP use are not good anyway, you will be far better off using an external, ethernet connected Wireless Access Point.

The 605x is a standalone access point, you configure it independently and connect it to your router via Ethernet.

Once configured your wireless devices connect to the 605x which then send the data via Ethernet to the openwrt router.

It won’t appear as an interface on your openwrt device.

Well an AP doesn’t need access to the internet. Do you mean that devices connected to it don’t have internet access?

Can you detail how the AP is connected to your openwrt router?

Do the connected devices get an IP address from the routers dhcp service?

The AP is connected to the USB-to-Ethernet adapter, which is connected to an USB port of the raspberry PI. I can connect to the AP from my phone or laptop but the devices I connect do not have internet. - What do you mean by add a default gateway or dns ip? Add it for what and how?

That’s not enough information to go on. How about a network diagram and details of the client ip addresses?

A USB-Ethernet adapter was recognized and installed as eth2. You need to associate eth2 with a bridge or interface in /etc/config/network to pass data to it.

Sometimes when upgrading, especially when changing a major version, the order that the Ethernet adapters are enumerated will change, thus their eth numbers will also change. You'll need to modify the network configuration (or rearrange your cables) to keep them attached to the proper networks.

Also always plug USB network adapters (Ethernet or wifi) into the same physical port that they were first set up on, it makes a difference.
