Further to my earlier attempts to install a genuine version of OpenWrt on my Teltonika RUT955, I appear to have bricked it.
Apparently I should be able to access it via the RS232 port.
Does anyone know whether this is possible?
Can I tell whether it is revivable?

accessing stuff via serial port is always reversible, simply remove the cable again.

oem fw file works same as openwrt factory file.
https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/commit/d1130ad265b994d1b23972bab8c99787759686d0
Unless you explain what you dd to the router we dont have crystal ball to guess.

I tried following this guide using the factory image and the system never recovered.

check teltonika bootloader recovery guide, it is all web based . Use teltonika files, obviously, during whole process.

Are you referring to this - your attempts to use an undocumented flash method?

I gave this another try and it actually worked this time.
Which file file do I need to upload if I want this to be a genuine OpenWrt installation?

Check/Read the link @brada4 posted earlier?
Check my post here: TELTONIKA RUT955 or RUT955 H7V3C0?
Wondering, you did not find it yourself using search function for the forum.
However, in case you have a very new batch, you might have the 3rd variant of the device.

When I click on ‘Choose File’ there is no prompt anyway so it looks like a pointless screen.
Clicking on ‘Update Firmware’ does nothing.
But I guess it shows the router is not bricked.

I’m using Chrome although updated and on another computer and not using a USB stick.

As an alternative I thought I would try using tftp:-
but am not clear about what needs to be placed in the tftpboot directory.
