Hi all,
I am trying to restore the original TP-Link firmware on a TL-WPA8631P (currently running OpenWrt), but I have no idea what I'm doing!
I have the .bin file from TP-Link. But according to this - https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wpa8631p_v3 - I think the .bin needs preparing somehow using the tool tplink-safeloader? Any guidance would be much appreciated or even if anyone would be kind enough to prepare the .bin so that I can load it!
I recently did the same. It's easy enough if you have access to a Linux box. Just download the relevant image builder, extract the tar and the safe_loader is available as described in your linked post.
If you need more help, send me a PM.
Thank you Graham. Not too sure what a Linux box is or how to use it - well out of my depth with this! How do I download the image builder and extract the tar? All I have is the .bin from TP Link
While I appreciate the request to keep this discussion public, I don't think a dissertation on Linux installation etc is going to help either of us.
If you can send me the .bin file you have downloaded or details of the version (v3?) and region, I will create the relevant file for you.
Thank you for setting up the file - that has worked now, successfully back to OEM. On the web interface I ticked the force upgrade and unticked retain current configuration.
I´m trying to restore a TL-WPA8631P (V3) to an OEM firmware. I have a working serial connection and tftp server.
Where I´m at rn: Flashing an unmodified OEM firmware does not work since it has to be modified with the Open Wrt Image Builder. I have Ubuntu running on my Mac in a vm but I am far from being an expert on Linux. This is all very new to me.
This doesn´t work for me. I always get error messages. I think my understanding for things like this is just too limited. I´m trying really hard to read and understand as much as I can but I guess it´s a lack of fundamentals.
