Restoring original stock firmware on TP-Link TL-WPA8631P

Hi all,
I am trying to restore the original TP-Link firmware on a TL-WPA8631P (currently running OpenWrt), but I have no idea what I'm doing!

I have the .bin file from TP-Link. But according to this - https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wpa8631p_v3 - I think the .bin needs preparing somehow using the tool tplink-safeloader? Any guidance would be much appreciated or even if anyone would be kind enough to prepare the .bin so that I can load it!

Thank you in advance,

Phil

I recently did the same. It's easy enough if you have access to a Linux box. Just download the relevant image builder, extract the tar and the safe_loader is available as described in your linked post.
If you need more help, send me a PM.

Graham

Thank you Graham. Not too sure what a Linux box is or how to use it - well out of my depth with this! How do I download the image builder and extract the tar? All I have is the .bin from TP Link

Keep it public, will you, so more people can benefit ...
TIA

While I appreciate the request to keep this discussion public, I don't think a dissertation on Linux installation etc is going to help either of us.
If you can send me the .bin file you have downloaded or details of the version (v3?) and region, I will create the relevant file for you.

If you're going to start with the Big Bang, then no

Thank you Graham, I'd be very grateful if you could create the file!

The TP Link firmware is this one: TL-WPA8631P KIT(UK)_V3_220330

Really appreciate the help. More than happy to send a PM but I can't see the link to do this on this forum?

Thank you again.

[Admin Edit: removed emal address. Please PM]

File sent. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you for setting up the file - that has worked now, successfully back to OEM. On the web interface I ticked the force upgrade and unticked retain current configuration.

Thanks again!

You're welcome.
Don't forget to do another firmware upgrade direct from tp-link.
All the best

I have the same problems. I've been trying for days to get the image builder to work, but to luck :frowning:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I´m trying to get this firmware
TL-WPA8631P KIT(EU)_V3_220330
https://static.tp-link.com/upload/firmware/2022/202204/20220420/TL-WPA8631P(EU)_V3_220330.zip

What are you trying to do ?

I´m trying to restore a TL-WPA8631P (V3) to an OEM firmware. I have a working serial connection and tftp server.
Where I´m at rn: Flashing an unmodified OEM firmware does not work since it has to be modified with the Open Wrt Image Builder. I have Ubuntu running on my Mac in a vm but I am far from being an expert on Linux. This is all very new to me.

It doesn't, it has to be patched though.
Read the back to stock section on the wiki page posted in the 1st post.

Send @Nedaros a PM, if you're lucky, they'll help you out.

Yeah that´s what I meant. Anyway I can´t get the image builder to work :frowning:

That's OK, I guess, since you don't need it.

You'd need to compile the tplink-safeloader.c yourself though.

It's described in https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/eap225#revert_to_stock_from_vendor_image

This doesn´t work for me. I always get error messages. I think my understanding for things like this is just too limited. I´m trying really hard to read and understand as much as I can but I guess it´s a lack of fundamentals.

Well, we can't help you with "error messages"....

I really don´t know what to write here to give relevant information. I´m sorry.
I follow these steps https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/eap225#revert_to_stock_from_vendor_image . Do I have to run these commands as sudo? Or su?

The 1st one, for installing packages, probably yes.
