Problem in connecting PPPOE Wan in WR1043N

Hello folks,
I have two identical TL-WR1043N devices of the same version and running 19.07.04. The pppoe wan connects on one device and does not connect on the other. I tried the following things.

  1. Config reset both the devices and configure.
  2. Download the configuration from the working device and upload to the non-working one.
  3. downgraded to openwrt 18 and tried.

but one device seems does not work at all with PPPOE wan, but it works fine with dhcp.

I enabled the debug in the pppoe conf file and capture some logs.

Here is the working one

For some reason the pppoe wan fails to setup in one device. Please help.

Seems to me that your ISP either

  • requires your router to have a certain MAC address, or
  • requires a bit of waiting until you can authenticate with a different MAC address than previously used

I have seen both.

Yes you could clone the first router's MAC into the second one with an option macaddr in the wan section.

Though if this is a permanent replacement it would be better in the long term to get the ISP to accept the MAC of the new router. Completely power down your modem and wait for the network to clear the old connection. In some cases you may have to call them to reassign the MAC.

Changed the MAC address and it worked. Thanks.

Thanks @tmomas.

For posterity and the benefit of others having the same problem: What exactly did you change (i.e., did you change the MAC address of the second router to that of the first one, or did you have it changed by the ISP, or did it time out and accepted the new MAC eventually), and, if you are willing to disclose it, what is your ISP?
