PPPoE not detecing line

Hi I am upgrading from Asus RT-N16 to Netgear WNDR3800
I have installed OpenWrt 19.07.2 on in but also tried 18.x version
Issue is that my ISP uses PPPoE but new router does not detect link after connecting wan interface.
If I connect it to old router with DHCP config all works.
I installed original firmware and it also worked so hardware should be ok.

Logs just show that line is not connected (no change in status) and yellow led is flashing on the router when line is connected.

Thx
Adam

What is the output of uci export network; ifstatus wan; logread ?
You can connect with SSH and paste the above command, then copy-paste it here in preformatted text (the </> button).

root@OpenWrt:~# uci export network; ifstatus wan; logread

I think you rushed to connect to the router and obtain the logs, there are just a few seconds between the booting messages and your connection, looks like the device did not time to even try to get the WAN interface up.

This is what i see for the last few minutes somewhere in that ime I plugged in the cable:

By any chance you have an ethernet socket in your house?
If yes, try to reseat the cable in the socket.

While I was investigating instability with my PPPoE connection and OpenWRT one of the reasons was that the connection became a bit loose in the ethernet socket (silly part was that between the router wan and the ethernet socket I have a switch and that switch was happy showing I have link... it was even blinking during PADI, but I wasn't receiving any PADO; worst part is that after a couple of hours it was actually capable to connect, also it was capable to connect if I was unpluging and repluging the router from the power source making it a pain to debug...).
Other things I noticed while debuging my issues with PPPoE, were a broken wire and well I also had to downclock the "CPU" of the router.

For some reasons the stock firmware was less sensitive compared to OpenWRT.

My case was not exactly like yours because in my case it was connecting to PPPoE but at some point it was disconnecting and after it was happy showing "Timeout waiting for PADO packets" over and over.

So that is pretty much THE error you get when your PPPoE client can not reach the PPPoE-server at the other end, independent of the reason... so first question, did you use OpenWrt successfully with your old router? If yes, can you post the content of that old openwrt router's /etc/config/network (cleaned for username and password like before)?

Hi just wanted to update on this - the cable has been checked and is ok router also did not work for the ISP on there premises (they took it to check).
I will check try versions of openwrt

Does your ISP require VLAN tagging? Then you might have to tag an ethernet port and plug the cable into that ethernet port instead of the WAN port.

I moved from:
OpenWrt 19.07.2 r10947-65030d81f3 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch git-20.057.55219-13dd17f
to
OpenWrt 19.07.3 r11063-85e04e9f46 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch git-20.136.49537-fb2f363
and now it works

Also moving from n16 to WNDR3800 so loads of changes.

Thanks all for sugestions
