Porting Firmware to TP-Link Archer C20 v5

Thank You so much

Please, can you tell me if that release supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi? Thanks...

Hi folks!
I just wish to confirm that my Archer C20 v5 EU is running OpenWrt 19.07.6, the one compiled by @Linaro (pls: where can I offer you a beer? May be PayPal?). WiFi is running well both 2.4 and 5 GHz. Flash space is enough to run OpenVPN with SSL, also wget with HTTPS support is installable. I tried to flash OpenWrt and go back to TP-Link firmware without problems, on my blog you can read more info: OpenWrt on Router TP-Link AC750 Archer C20 v5.

Hi!
I have a Archer C20 V5 (BR), and i flash the last linaro's version of the openwrt in my router via tftp.
The 2.4 network works fine, but the 5Ghz not, look the image:

The router can scan 5Ghz networks normally, but it doesn't transmit 5Ghz signal. What's the problem?
The firmware (US) is compatible with (BR)?

I've seen some topics with this problem, I tried several things like changing channels, set auto channel on, etc. Nothing works.

Has anyone created an openwrt installer for BR versions of Archer C20?

Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone. After reading the whole thread I took the plunge and bought a C20v5 EU, everything is working great since I'm using it as a range extender and now using two different radios - 2.4 as the client and 5.8 for the internal network - really boosted the connection, many thanks.

Just FYI, 19.07.7 is available at Linaro's GitHub page, get it now !

HI, all. It's been a hectic year with all this COVID mess.

I was unable to access my router via SSH from my Fedora 33 machine. After hours of investigation, I came to a conclusion that this is a bug in Dropbear insisting on sending server host RSA key fingerprints in SHA1. It doesn't matter if you generate one with ssh-keygen(OpenSSH) and convert it using dropbearconvert on your machine. I haven't looked at the Dropbear code, but I'm pretty sure that Dropbear is the culprit here. It seems that adding ECDSA or ED25519 support solves this issue.

I'm no expert, but Dropbear still using SHA1 indeed seems like a huge security concern. If you're concerned, use ECDSA or ED25519 SSH private keys for your root account. This can be easily done via the web interface. If you use password login for your root account, you might be putting your router in risk.

Cheers,

bro, you just saved my a$$. i have been looking for a stripped firmware all over the place. You should create another post with this title "TP-Link Archer C20 V5 (US) Stripped Firmware for friends who would revert to TP-Link" so it will be easy for others to search for it.

All right
Did you bring it back via TFTP?!!
Let me know
Appreciate that

can someone tell me how to revert back to tp link firmware....mine is EU version...is it possible to just update through openwrt updater??

I tried with TFTP but it did not worked so i did the same as you did (flashed tp_recovery file from the web UI)

Thank you for notifying me :pray:t6:

i cant find the right file to flash through tftp...there are three .bin file..which should i choose to flash through tftp.

I'm having issues with the the 2.4G wlan on a C20(EU) v5 operating as an AP. It breaks after few seconds when running at full speed, e.g. when downloading a large file. The SSID disappears and I have to restart it in order to connect again. I flashed it yesterday with the current development snapshot.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I found a similar report, but for a different device using the same SoC

The question here is something which you did not catch :slight_smile:
Hardware is absolutely the same but 5G transmit power is low. This means that openwrt is reading that stuff from the wrong place.
May be these sections:

                    rom: partition@7d0000 {
                            label = "rom";
                            reg = <0x7d0000 0x10000>;
                            read-only;
                    };

                    partition@7e0000 {
                            label = "romfile";
                            reg = <0x7e0000 0x10000>;
                    };

                    radio: partition@7f0000 {
                            label = "radio";
                            reg = <0x7f0000 0x10000>;
                            read-only;
                    };

Version 4 is missing rom and romfile sections.

I tried to go through this thread but couldn't follow. I need to buy 5 Archer C20 V5's for a project, and I see that RC 21.02 has a firmware available. Can anyone confirm if that works fine ?

Firmware : https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=21.02.0-rc2&target=ramips%2Fmt76x8&id=tplink_archer-c20-v5

I need PPPoE, 5Ghz and 2.5Ghz (both client/AP modes).
