there are two versions of RBR50 and RBS50
v1 comes with usb port
v2. it didn't come with usb port

Will the current v1 snapshot firmware work on v2?

there probably wasn't a v2 when the device was added, there's no way of knowing, trial and error, in a controlled manner.

I flashed with RBR50 v1 snapshot image, the RBR50 v2 failed to boot.

I will try open it and connect with serial cable. how can I provide useful log / output? what steps / commands should I run?

Try to interrupt the boot loader.

Post printenv, and help from it.

RBR50 v2 PCB layout



Lurking patiently..........

Interested to use OpenWRT on my RBK50v2 too as I would like to use VLAN on wireless that is not supported on original firmware.
Is the hardware so different than the RBK50v1? (missing USB port but also more?)

the V1 has 4GB flash memory
the V2 has 512mb flash memory
the partition layout is different.

So just to confirm, the firmware at https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/netgear/netgear_rbr50 does not work on the RBR50v2. I just get a flashing orange power light.

Confirmed! This firmware build is only valid for RBR/RBS 50v1. On RBR/RBS50v2 the flash process (using nmrpflash) finishes, but the device won't boot.

I'm currently trying to re-build the image for the smaller Flash memory (as noted by @nbie), and if successful will post the solution here.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I couldn't build a new image compatible with RBR/RBS50v2. I'm new to OpenWRT and need some more time exploring this issue. If anyone's able to fix this, please post your solution and steps followed here!
