MT7615E 160Mhz available or not?

Hello,
i have a Totolink A8000RU and i'm using the latest snapshot available.
CPU = MT7622
Wifi 5Ghz = 2x MT7615E

In the stock firmware, the max channel width i can set is 80Mhz for both MT7615E. In openWRT i can set 160Mhz for both MT7615E :

when run iw list that's what i get :

What's the problem ? the iw command is wrong ?
when i set 160Mz i can't connect to the router with my phone (Samsung S20 FE) btw i don't even know if my phone is 160Mhz capable but if it's not then it should connect at 80Mhz...
at 160Mhz i can see the SSID but it permanently fail when i try to connect, when i set 80Mhz it works

Well I guess by now you have a hunch, right? :yum:

I reckon either the mt76 driver falsely advertises 160 MHz support, or your client device doesn't support it. Or both. Does your AP even come up when you set it to 160? Even if your client does not support 160 MHz it should still see it AFAIK.

With the setting @ 160Mhz on both MT7615E, I can see the SSID, but i can connect only to one of them (of course @ 80Mhz), but the connection fails all the time on the second one. it doesn't revert to 80Mhz. i have to set it to 80Mhz manually, and in this case it works.

Since i have my router the 2nd radio was always set to 80Mhz, so i never noticed that problem when set @ 160 Mhz.

here : https://www.mediatek.com/products/broadband-wifi/mt7615
it says BW160, i guess it is supposed to support 160Mhz then.

here : https://deviwiki.com/wiki/MediaTek_MT7615 they speak about drivers. But what driver is it ?? MT76 ?

Features :
Supports 4x4 4SS 11ac Wave2 MU-MIMO and 160MHz channels
Supports 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 channels (MT7615B/D/E/S/N)
Supports 80+80 and 160MHz channels (only MT7615E/N)

Since 4.4.1.0 : SB mode: 4T4R 802.11ac 5GHz (BW160)
Since 4.4.1.2 : BW160/80+80

Perhaps a driver bug.

Run iw list and look in the VHT Capabilities section of the results.

There will be channel overlap at 160 MHz.

An example...channel 36 at 160 would overlap 14 channels, including some DFS (radar) channels.

i did it already here click on "Summary" for full view of the output.

Both MT7615E can't overlap, because they split the channels. Those that are enabled for one, are disabled for the other.
See below how they splited the channels for both MT7615e.

Two things are required to run 160Mhz with MT7615 .Radio with 4x4 streams configuration

iw phy0 info
(...)
VHT RX MCS set:
1 streams: MCS 0-9
2 streams: MCS 0-9
3 streams: MCS 0-9
4 streams: MCS 0-9

and reg domain that allow for 160Mhz band .Lower band like 36 should also be able to use 160Mhz where there is no DFS in that band

iw reg get
global
country PA: DFS-FCC
        (2400 - 2483 @ 40), (N/A, 36), (N/A)
        (5150 - 5250 @ 80), (N/A, 36), (N/A), AUTO-BW
        (5250 - 5350 @ 80), (N/A, 30), (N/A), AUTO-BW
        (5470 - 5725 @ 160), (N/A, 30), (N/A)
        (5725 - 5850 @ 80), (N/A, 36), (N/A)
        (57000 - 64000 @ 2160), (N/A, 43), (N/A)

then client capable VHT@160Mhz should see 1.7Gbit link

I got it working on my netgear r6800 and laptop with Intel AC 9560 160 Mhz card. Thanks. In fact by using channel 144 I could not see the AP, however when I switched to 36, all is fine.Roaming to my dumb Ap is working fine as well.
