MF286D - ISP Problem?

This morning I’m experiencing connections problems.

Internet suddenly stopped to proovide service, my watchdog service entered in action but with no result. Neither reboot or modem turned off provided results.

I noticed system date&time were worng, I fixed them but after reboot&shutdowm, they wnet back.

I saved partial logread as I realized I never thought how to transfer files in/out from the MF2856D.

I’m running last version 24.10.2.

Can I do something instead of turn off the modem and wait?

Thanks

Update: connection is back.

Is there any suggestion in order to be able to trasnfer files in case of need?

vsfptd or openssh-sftp-server?

It’s just to locally transfer files.

ssh, type dmesg to get complete system log (it's a round robin, sooner or later it'll start overwriting itself).
same is available through Luci.

Still getting problems …. as I configured watchdog (mode: restart interface, Period 1m, hostotocheck: 8.8.8.8, addrefamily: ipv4, checkinterval: 5m), last night I disabled it to make a try, even it was working since when I configured it (see MF286D - regular disconnects)

At boot this morning, no valid connection (even if some staistics were present on the interface), then I manually restarted it and it worked.

Not very clear to me where to look to (isp problems, some broken configuration).

I saved dmesg&logread outputs just after I got connection.

then post dmesg.

sorry for the trivial question … I do not find attachment’s feature, should I simply copy & paste in the message?

yes, use the </> button on top of the edit window before you pastd it, so it ends up between the tags the button creates.

if the forum complains about post size, remove stuff from the top (oldest) not the bottom.

the device rebooted to get internet access back ?
can't find any disconnect in the log you pasted.

No, I manually restarted interface as I just did right now as there was no connection. But time was not 4 hours as it normally occurred freezing … and first time it was everything zero (ex:packets)

Just for my understanding, what’s happening to the router when this entries are found in the log (logread)?

Wed Aug 13 10:35:27 2025 daemon.info hostapd: phy0-ap0: STA 96:34:e1:8e:b6:6b IEEE 802.11: disassociated due to inactivity
Wed Aug 13 10:35:28 2025 daemon.info hostapd: phy0-ap0: STA 96:34:e1:8e:b6:6b IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to inactivity (timer DEAUTH/REMOVE)

those are related to your wifi, not the uplink LTE connection.

Ok, I understand that actual problem is due to isp’s stop/reset.

I’ll setup back watchdog and we will see.

Please advice in case I should better tune watchdog’s parameters.

Thanks

I've never used the wd, can't help you there, but if it's the ISP, they disconnects should be pretty predictable, time wise.
every X hours, every time.

I suspended watchcat. I approached the router (different part of the house) to clean the SIM and I found the red led turned on.

Always more convinced it's an ISP problem. I cleaned the SIM, I’m letting it running (now I have connection) without watchcat and I’ll observe connections in the next hours

It’s a week I suspended watchcat restarting wan interface and since then, riuter regularly stops connections after 4 hours. Then I restart interface.

So, router works fine, unless someone could advice on my watchcat settings to restart wan interface used till last week that worked since a while before experiencing problems, I would move to reboot every four hours using again watchcat.

it's most likely because ISP decides to cut the connection after 4h, don't think there's anything you can do about it from your end, except perhaps swap ISP, or call them and ask if the limit can be removed.

I chooses the second, calling ISP and opening a ticket.

Not a lot of optimism after the contact with support but that's true that first level could be not aware of such problem.

Not expecting you be contacted about, after one week I’ll be able to see if something happened

No changes on ISP’s side, so I set reboot every 4 hours under cron.

I tried before with ifdown & ifup, but I got same instability as with watchcat.

After one year, I'm back on this topic. I'm trying to imptove the strategy I applied one year ago: one reboot every four hours.

Now I'd like to keep the router running and stop/start wan (wwan0) interface and, if necessary, lan (br-lan) interface.

Is there someone knowing commands triggered by the two buttons in Network/Interfaces screen?

Thanks in advance for any comment/suggestion

Alex

ifdown / ifup?
