I think i bricked my router?

hi
im new to this site and also new to openwrt.
i decided to try out openwrt on my router.

i did the firmware flash and got openwrt to open normaly and connect to it.
but during the initial setup i lost power, and after it came back the router started ok it seems.
the front power light stayed on a little while and then disappered, same with the connectivity led.
and now it wont give me ip or i cant connect to it.

is there any hope for it or have i "bricked" it as i fear

regards Bob

  • What is your device (brand + model, including version number if shown on the info sticker)?
  • What file did you download to install into your router (what is the exact filename)?
  • How did you install it?
  • What have you tried in terms of testing connectivity (please be specific)?

Google Photos

its a asus rog rapture GT-AC5300
i downloaded the file named openwrt-23.05.5-bcm4908-generic-asus_gt-ac5300-squashfs.bin on this site,
went into router via web browser and on the administration tab selected upload file and selected the file-
after i got a counter for 90 sec and progress bar and after that it said to reboot the router manually.
then i log into it and changed password and looked at some menus, while looking throught the documentation here on this site..
i didnt do any changes except root password, before power outage.
after that the power light turns on then after a little while goes away again. but the connectivity light is on and flashes.

i looked on at the documentation that said i could try the asus restoration tool but didnt want to try anything before asking here

Which connectivity light? A lan port? wan port? Something else?

Are you connecting via ethernet to the router?

Is your computer set to DHCP? Does it get an address?

yes the connectivity is the lan port, no lights when i put cable into wan.
yes im using the ethernet to connect to the router since i always had cable for this and only use wifi for the phone and such.
yes it was set up as dhcp but not get any adress, when i type ipfonfig i get 169 adress.

maybe see if you can get your device into failsafe mode...

hey sorry for late reply

i tried that and not sure if something happend. because the power light didnt not change the behavior.
power led is just on for a little while then seems like when it finihs booting (after a few seconds) it turns off,
and connectivity led (lan) is still up.

but now i get a ip when i set it to dhcp mode

and it say lan at top when i write ipconfig and i get a ip 192.168.1.147
and gateway says 192.168.1.1
but cant connect to it via browser and if i try to ping it, it just says general failure..

so im not sure what it can do maybe its F.... typical my luck
thanks for your patience

Can you connect it with ssh like putty?

And if so, use opkg to install LuCI: opkg update && opkg install luci

no i tried with both dhcp and static ip and when i use putty to try connect i get : network error:permission denied

Well , find a client device that can connect.

 i dont know what i did or what happend but i let it sit for a while andnow i could access the settings page again for the router
thank you all for the trouble of helping out i really appriciate it
