Help: Guest Network Setup via AP (no WAN)

Hello,

I will start off by saying that I do not work in the IT field and networking is not something I know much about. I am also not very good at it. Hopefully I explain the situation accurately.

My current network topology consists of a DSL modem (ISP provided) that is bridged to a Netgear Nighthawk. The Nighthawk is my primary router, private network is on 10.0.0.0/24.

I am trying to setup a TP Link Archer C7 [OpenWrt 21.02.3 r16554 / LuCI openwrt-21.02] as a Guest Network access point using 10.0.1.0/24. The Archer C7 has a static IP of 10.0.0.4 on my main network and is connected to an un-managed switch that is connected to the Nighthawk.

Guest network should not have access to my private network [10.0.0.0/24]. I don't need clients to be isolated. I'd rather not try to figure out vlans if possible.

I tried following the steps in https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/guestwifi/guestwifi_dumbap - still no internet access via an clients connecting to the guest network. I've tried a couple other steps, such as adding a firewall rule to try to allow internet access to the guest network, no luck.

Diagnostic tools via http://10.0.0.4/cgi-bin/luci/admin/network/diagnostics seem to work, I can ping, traceroute, & nslookup - I assume this means the AP has internet access.

I am basically fumbling around try to make it work, but I am not able to find/figure out the right setup. Most of the info I find doesn't involve a setup where there is no WAN.

I am using a linux machine to access the router when needed but prefer the WebUI, if it matters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There should be no destination here... the rule is intended to apply to the router itself as the destination, so remove the dest here:

Below, you've set a host, not a network... the network should be 10.0.0.0/24.

Remove this entirely:

@psherman Appreciate the assistance. I made the changes you described and everything seems to be working.

Thank you
