Driver for rtl8811cu on OpenWrt

I'm aware there are two topics about this driver, but both go off topic and have no answer.
The question is how to compile the rtl8811cu driver for openwrt and get it working?

don't mind the speed, AP mode, etc. I just need it to work as a client mode.

The situation around Realtek wireless drivers, particularly USB wireless drivers, is an utter mess. Realtek pushes out new, slightly changed, wireless chipsets 2-3 times a year, each with their own vendor driver[0], which is subsequently forgotten about immediately, in favour of the next one - but doesn't follow up with upstreaming them at all[1]. For a while these drivers were accepted into staging, but after six drivers ended up there[2], rotting away without ever getting closer to being mainl…

Someone, probably you, would have to package up that out-of-tree vendor driver for OpenWrt and keep it in life-support (which is not going to be easy with updating backports wireless stacks and this abdomination of a 2.6.14 vintage iwpriv based ieee80211softmac fork with symbol bleed and dependencies on a vendorized 0.4.8 vintage hostapd fork). The only real advice would be to run for the hills.
