DLink DIR-853 A3

Dear kar200. I first came across your post on the Dlink forum. After digging the internet for half of today, came across this post. I've successfully got the ISP firmware removed and got Padawan running. It's running perfectly. Thank you for the great work. Do continue to keep it up.

@XakFak Hi again,

Here is a link for the firmware files. I don't think they will work from web interface and you will need to use the Dlink emergency room through the reset button and upload them.
There are 2 files. One is padavan and the other one is Lede. good luck.

Hi @nwrzd

Happy to hear it is working for you.

I think this type of Failsafe ui you mean (853r1)

That's correct. I am not sure why I have in mind "emergency room". I believe it was from the Dlink forums where they refer to it always as the emergency room.

Dlink A1's has emergency room with dlink branding
the R1 versions have non branded Failsafe

Thanks @Lucky1. At least now we know the R1 does not have the "full" Dlink experience

the R1 boot loader works much better from windows & Linux
the A1 well not so munch only windows failed on Linux in browsers

Hi,
Had upgraded the firmware trough the D-Link interface , but after upgrading its not allowing me to login to the router , so what password do I use , as the ones on the back of the router are not working .
Thanks

I am not sure if you figured out the username/pass but it is admin/admin

Thanks will try it out .

Hello Guys,

I urgently need your help. I need a firmware for DIR-853 Version A3
what whould it be the router password once I upgrade it.
I couldnt find anything from all the sites. Hope you can help me.

Thanks,
Newbie

Hi, Can you share on me the firmware of DIR - 853 version A3.

Thanks

Hi,

The firmware link is a few posts above this one. Before you proceed you do understand that this is based on "padavan" and it is not a D-Link firmware "upgrade"

If you do upgrade the IP will be 192.168.2.1 and the default username/pass (admin/admin)

do you have d link stock firmware, I have etisalat router, but I want to make it as a range extender.

What do you mean by D-Link stock firmware ? Isn't your device already on the stock firmware?

If it is to go back to stock in case you don't like padavan then yes it should be included in the link posted above (MediaFire link posted by @kenan1099).

Going back to stock firmware will have to be done through SSH though and not through the web interface (it will fail anyway so you won't risk bricking your device even if you try)

And padavan firmware does work as a wireless extender (I don't know about the stock dlink firmware).

The only way to flash the stock dlink firmware is to either use the serial console or flash padavan and then flash the stock dlink firmware (decrypted). I did try the DIR-853 A1/A2 and the DIR-1360 and they both work (USB is problematic though for some reason).

Can someone tell the performance of the Firmware for NAS options. I have the etisalat stock FW for dir 853 A3 and saw this padavan FW. I wanna try. Upon reading the thread I saw someone posted that it seems the router is capped @ 100mbps wireless transfer rate. My internet is 500mbps. I dont wanna flash this and end up maxing out @ 100mbps.

The main reason I wanna try this is because the stock fw of dir 853 a3(etisalat) is very slow for samba and FTP purposes, eventhough I have a ssd and hooked up to a usb 3 port of the router. If i want to watch movie from my ssd which is attached to the router, it it buffering too much, and copying something over the network will give transfer rates maxed out at 5mbps only, i am not sure what is the problem. This does not happen on my Asus RT-AC68U and linksys Ea6900.

The bottleneck with file transfer would be the cpu (mt7621) and not the connexion in this case. I never use the file share option normally with USB so I cannot really comment.

There is also no cap. What you are referring might have been a cable issue (The user complaining about it never came back her to say if it is still happening or not).

I guess you will have to flash and see for yourself. I have not done any benchmark as there are too many options to test (wired, wireless, SMB, NFS, different filesystems...etc).

Hi Karim,

Thank you so much for your contribution. I'm sure a lot of people are already running Padawan. Can you please share the file again as the wetransfer links are expired.

I have a DIR-853/ET HW:A3 and want to use it as an access point rather than a router. Can I upgrade to the padawan firmware using "Management >> Upgrade" option ? Sorry if this has been answered before but I could not understand this from the above thread.

Thanks, once again.
