What is the purpose of these disconnections? To ban a device from the network? Or something else?
Also, are they wired, wireless clients/connections, or both?
I need also to disconnect wired clients ... thanks
I have wired devices I need to disconned - thanks
try to answer the questions.
Thanks frollic - it was 8 am my local time and I hadn't had any sleep yet so had to rest for moment there
Basically .. when a wired client connects to lan ports it gets a lease ... I would like to cancel the lease before it runs out ... Both with it still connected and also end the lease when wire no longer is connected ... hope that is clarifies the question
Why do you want to mess with normal DHCP operation?
Since you describe just canceling their lease, this means you don't wanna disconnect clients, nor disconnect open connections.
OK.
So, is there a reason you want to do this, then?
Maybe describing your use case will provide some clarity.
Not at all.
Just to be clear, again - canceling DHCP leases will not disconnect clients, nor end open connections.
Generally speaking, a lease cannot be terminated by the server. Once a lease is issued, it is valid for the duration of the lease. The DHCP client will continue to use the IP address issued by the server until the lease actually expires.
Further, preventing a subsequent DHCP lease from being issued does not actually prevent network access insofar as the user could potentially set a static IP on their device, thus enabling them to get back on the network.
So... what is it that you actually want to achieve. Please be specific.
I'll think a little about what I want .... thank you so much
Good. It is important to have a complete understanding of (and ability to describe) what you're trying to achieve... it may or may not be possible, but at least if we can be on the same page, we'll give you the best info we can.
