This is probably more an Apple device issue, but worth sharing:

I had terrible WiFi speeds on my MBP M1 and iphone 14 with a lot of bufferblot (even thou I run the QOS part on my x86 router that my router is wired to as a dumb AP).

After changing the 5ghz (ax) to channel 149 (80 mhz) i suddenly got crazy low pings wits no bufferbloat with 700/500 speeds. Is this common knowledge?

Does anyone need to reboot their router once every ~2 weeks or so?

What ends up happening is that WAN and LAN stop responding, and but the LEDs on the router keep flashing like crazy. If I power off / power on, everything comes back perfect. Running more or less the latest snapshots... Not sure what to do next. Get a serial console when the next outage happens?

Hi, I don't have any stability problems. Longest time without reboot has been around one moth. Now my router is up and running 15 days on kernel 6.x. Please supply any dmesg or logs from console. Have any enabled WED or any other NAT offloading?

dmesg gets wiped on reboot right? I can't access the router at all when it disappears, but I will try to get a serial console. Or is there a way to log dmesg to file so it survives reboots?

No NAT offloads, running fq_codel + simplest_tbf, WED is enabled.

Personally I think WED is still very unstable so you can try disable or debug the problem. I don't use WED.

/sys/fs/pstore is empty (but this is ~14 hours after the reboot).

Interesting, I will disable it and see if the stability can stay up.

I bought TX-AX6000 for $150 (including delivery).

TX-AX6000 hardware is completely the same as TUF-AX6000. Only bodies are different.

Not sure what country are you in, but AX6000 is less than 200 euro here (sometimes as low as 160). An EU country.

I agree on avoiding topics about pricing (and politics). I didn’t mean to keep up with the discussion, only to say that this router is one of the most affordable WiFi 6 routers with CPU that can handle 1Gbps SQM (and has 2 x 2.5GbE free of charge).

P.S. But now that the initial post was edited, I would probably just have to delete it.

are you sure sqm make 1 gbit witouth bufferbloat ?

Simple WireGuard test results:

  • 761 Mbps : official snapshot (6.1.78) Source

The results are extremely surprising.
Therefore, I ask someone to do the same test on their router.

Cloud you describe what have you changed in your's builds ? Is it only kernel version or something more I (specially snapshot one )?

I myself don’t understand what affected the speed in this test so much.
My builds are just regular stock firmware filled with additional packages.
I don't add any special settings to the configs.

Yes. All settings are the same as in the official OpenWRT firmwares.

So, my router "crashed" again (all network access stopped, cannot ping its internal IP, but wifi is still seen as alive by devices and all LED lights are continuing to flash).

I connected to the serial console, hit enter, and I still had shell access. I looked at the dmesg output and see:

Rebooting the router brings everything back up. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I think I may need to go back to the Edgerouter X even though it is unable to handle anywhere near 1gbps traffic shaping, but at least it was reliable. I'll be out of home for a few weeks and won't be able to remotely reboot the router, losing all of my home-hosted things otherwise :expressionless:

OpenWRT version: OpenWrt SNAPSHOT, r25366-7f13b9f8be WED can be enabled or disabled, both settings have resulted in this crash (which seems to be something with the physical ports rather than radio).

I suspect that the switch is buggy, or the driver does not work with it correctly.

For the purity of the experiment, if I were you, I would check it on the release version of 23.05.2
