Asus TUF Gaming AX6000 support

Damn. I got it open. Don't ask me how. I got a iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit. I started from the side then the back. Then the other side. Then the front. Only one tap broke. So I'm happy. See some initial photos below. Feel free to upload them on the wiki!

Close up:

Boot sequence output from console via serial port (RX, TX and GRD), using minicom:

Login is the stock image via console possible with the same login credentials as the web interface.

Good information, but please note all forum members that there is not any reason but for which we want to open the router case. You have privileges on wiki so you can upload images by yourself.

Please supply dmesg. I use build with kernel 6.1 and wifi looks ok. Even more stable for me.

Then I soldered only rx, tx and ground.

With on the other end my home made connector. For easy access now and in the future.

I connected to serial port in the stock Asus rom via minicom. Which also gave me access to the console/terminal.

/www folder:

I don't.. yes I can edit text, but if I want to use the media manager to upload an image it says:

Sorry, you don't have enough rights to upload files.

Could you help me?

what is extra reboot?

Hi,

Just an additional restart of the router after the firmware update :grinning:

very strange why after upgrade process first boot not execute script which create fw file. Maybe there is a race conditioning or script has been executed after driver loading.

Do you know how could I fix this or debug it?

Any one could help?
Need to enter failsafe MODE and no luck so far

I plan to take Openwrt into use but some steps are unclear. If I understood correctly, it's not safe to use snapshots more than once because of the partitions that cause to soft brick the router. I could use USB TTL adapter with it if I can plug the pins without opening the router. Not sure though what steps to take with it but maybe I should rely on the wiki page of the router(the official method).

I don't have the adapter but I realised I could use Arduino Uno. Uno TX is 5V so is it a problem with the router or should I divide the voltage to 3.3v? I know that VCC should not be connected because of the risk of frying the router and only TX, RX and GND are needed.

No one has figured out the reason for the soft bricking after installing sysupgrade images.
A very small number of people have this problem. And none of them provided logs from UART.

So first, try the installation method via trx-image + sysupgarde, and if you get a soft brick, then start soldering.

Thanks, I'll try that first. According to the guide, opening the case or soldering aren't required for the serial port connection so why would you suggest that? Anyways, if I ever soft brick it, I would really appreciate a confirmation what voltage is safe for TX/RX pins.

I'm just not a fan of pushing wires through holes in the case.

I open all my routers and install a minijack connector in the case

3.3V

Hey all,

I am new to the club and want to start my OpenWRT journey with my new AX6000

I already started scanning this thread and the OpenWRT Documentation, but I am a bit unsure if I understood everything correctly. Especially the reports about broken auc make me a bit nervous and I am not sure what the exact alternative to auc is and what the caveats are?

I want to use the TRX method.

  1. Initial installation via TRX
1.a) Download TRX-image [google drive link in Device wiki]
1.b) Install via original Asus Web interface
1.c) Change computer IP-addr to 192.168.1.10 and wait 60...90 seconds.

  2. Upgrade with Sysupgrade instead of AUC (Attend Sysupgrade) to avoid potential issues. This is now clear, but which image to chose? Can I use the "standard" firmware selector image (sysupgrade version) or do i have to request a custom build from the firmware selector? It was not clear to me, if this makes any difference.

Many thanks!

I was trying to figure out SQM settings and ended up using fq_codel with simplest_tbf.qos for now. However, I wanted to use cake(piece_of_cake or some other one?) because it's most often recommended and the hardware should handle it. However, it was mentioned somewhere that cake works only in one core and the workload can probably be split with the rest of the cores which doesn't remove delay(?) caused by some lock. Anyways, that was something I tried to figure out while fixing the cake.

I have 1 Gbps fiber connection(GPON?) and can get about 945/945 in speedtest and almost the same with the simplest_tbf but especially upload needed to be limited with SQM settings a little bit to avoid +200 ms loaded latency.

I didn't do any significant steps while swapping between the queueing disciplines and my problem with cake was really low download speed. It was capped at ~500 Mbps and if I'm not mistaken, upload wasn't perfect either. Limiting the speed with SQM setting didn't make any difference upward. At that point of testing with cake, I had recommended settings for per packet overhead(44) and I had something in MTU but not sure if it was a mistake. MTU with devices/interfaces is 1500 and I think most of the settings related to this topic are default. Anyways, I got rid of the overhead(but actually kept the link layer ethernet overhead setting chosen) and at this point I don't understand if it is needed at all or what would be the value for this kind of environment. I pinged without fragmenting packets and 1472 was working well. Additionally, I tried to go over 1472 but mostly failed at trying it.

When I initially started testing that new fiber setup, I had to use some tool called TCP Optimizer because I couldn't figure out what was limiting my connection speed even if I checked all the most common things. It really helped a lot and I can get 945/945. I'm going to test reverting the changes by using the backup I took because at the moment I can get stable full dl/ul speed in Waveform's Bufferbloat test only with Ubuntu and my Windows 11 gaming PC cannot achieve anything like that with it. There would probably be some other ways to test connection quality but that website is currently the simplest and fastest indication of the quality for me. Just wondering if someone knew what is going on

Just some extra detail that popped, I used sysupgrade linked in the AX6000 wiki but I assume it's the same as in the firmware selector except I was missing Luci.
