Assigning an IP to a TP-Link repeater

Possibly the DHCP server is off on your device. I believe the v6 gives out standard IP of 192.168.0.100 with gateway set to 192.168.0.254

Can you try that on your laptop (set it to .100 and try to connect to .254 )?

If that doesn’t work I believe you’ll need more invasive inspection by serial port…

Let me clear out some questions:
When you say v6, you refer to what?

About the IPs, you mean to set a static IP to the enp3s0f2 network card of my laptop as I did above with IP 192.168.1.147 and then connect to 192.168.0.254 via web browser while connected to this RJ45 network?

Edited;

If I try to connect to this network, it just keeps trying and trying for ever and it doesn't connect!

Wait guys, I think I made it.
Somehow, after setting the IP to 192.168.0.100 and the gateway to 192.168.0.254, there was a notification in my Firefox, out of the blue, saying that I needed to login to access this page. No idea what page though, because I didn't even tried to connect neither to tplinkrepeater.net nor to the gateway IP. It was simply a notice from Firefox that popped up and I clicked it and the configuration page of the extender, showed up!

owever, now, it seems I can't connect to the web interface again espite the fact that the repeater is already connected to my home network and working.
But there was a very strange thing happening right after I configured my home network in the repeater settings page.
I got a porn site showing up inside one of the main frames of the repeater web page interface, and after that, no more links of the web interface worked!

Looks like progress! Reset and try again :wink:

I'm not sure I want to do that. I'm so afraid of falling into the same situation that I'm not sure I want to do it.
For instance, from my laptop, I can't access the web interface to configure anything in the repeater.
I could only do it now from the Tether app.

I just changed the login and password for the web interface. I didn't like at all that a porn site showed up in my web interface of the repeater!

I should probably check if there are any firmware updates and install any if there are!
Or maybe download OpenWrt and install it in the repeater (and risk again the same problems - lol)

When configuring it's best to clear the browser cache and open an incognito window so you don't have leftover stuff from whatever was on the IP before.

I don't know why you decided to go to tplinkrepeater.net but that is a legitimate Internet name and someone has registered it and it is likely a trap / virus / spam / porn site. Once you have it configured as a repeater, it isn't going to serve its own DNS name-- so you should look in your main router's DHCP leases for its working IP and connect to that numerically. Or use the app which will probe your network for it.

If you now have it configured to repeat your home network, you're done, because that is basically all that the box can ever do. OpenWrt is not feasible on these since the largest version is 4/32 and most of them have tiny memory running something other than Linux.

That's the link you should access to be able to have access to the repeater settings, from the original docs.

I’ve used that web address too in the past when initially configuring it, and never saw anything weird. Tether app is good too, has all functionality (although you sometimes have to click icons to see advanced settings…)

Firmware upgrade is a great idea! Hope all will be well thereafter.

I'm not doing anything right now. Not even the firmware. I was searching in the site and I couldn't even figure out if the version I have is newer or older than any of the ones in the site. The version/build I have in the repeater label matches no one from the site. So, I'll stick to whatever it is in the repeater.

Also, because now, I can't even see the device in Tether app. No idea why. Nor I can access to te webinterface at all nor from my laptop nor from my phone! :expressionless:

Edited;
From my wife phone I just could access the web interface via Tether app but I can't access it from my phone.

The web interface says the firmware is 3.14.8 Build 140527 Rel. 69108n. Hardware version is WA850RE v1.2 00000000.

Site has onlye the following versions:
TL-WA850RE(EU)_V1.20_150731
TL-WA850RE(EU)_V1.20_140826
TL-WA850RE_V1.20_140310

So, I'm not sure v1.2 is the same as v1.20.

Then, if I go to V1, I see only one firmware version to download, which is back from 2012. The device I have is from 2015.
