Adding OpenWrt support for Xiaomi "Redmi Router AX6S"/"Xiaomi Router AX3200"

Thanks, @rincewind! I have added this info to the wiki (Upgrading OpenWrt section), it should be useful to keep it there.
Also added a link to the solution provided by @redshifted for fixing missing 5G wireless section in Luci after OpenWrt installation/sysupgrade. I have seen several posts already reported this issue for some newer devices.

This command outputs 0000000 bce3 793b as the first values for me.
I have booted initramfs from UART and used that to sysupgrade the firmware.

Sysupgrading from LuCI bricks the device, but sysupgrading directly from CLI works.

Also, the 5GHz network goes missing after some reboots. Thankfully, the eeprom fix described above works.

If it was snapshot initramfs, the problem is supposedly fixed there. For 22.03 it is still broken. Current snapshot builds should have no problems with softbricks and eeprom (after you flash it which can require recovery if current system is broken). And eeprom fix above is suboptimal at least because you use generic configuration values instead of factory calibration data specifically tuned to your device.

Today I flashed the AX3200 with an open telnet. If you flash a snapshot of the router, it dies. 22.03.3 is stitched without problems.

I have compiled it myself here as well in paste but I dont remember well, but seems like they all came already in M by default

Hi guys,

I've compiled OpenWRT v22.03.3 with the proprietary Mediatek drivers built-in. Here's a link to the firmware:

did anyone try this? what advantages does this have from the official one?

try it yourself

Any advantages over official release?

yes, and no. depends
i use mtk on my device, but i have other devices with mt76

Might be yes if you use developement atm and you need ax160Mhz. This cutout and more has been introduced for about 2 weeks, almost 3 on MT7915 along with a statement that this radio does not support the features. Wrong!
It's such a shame to limit the radio options on 5Ghz (ac&ax).
I only discovered this recently due to commit delay. Last image working at 160Mhz is saved on my phone (thankfully), dated last day on january 2023.

What disadvantages are there with the mtk drivers? I've never used the open source drivers but I heard there were some range and speed issues with them?

well, i love mtk wifi drivers because repeter mode is amazing. speed, range, stable. but i use that for repeter mode.
i love mt76 too, the true is when i use mt76 i miss mtk, and when i use mtk i miss mt76
that's why i have devices whit one radio mtk and the other mt76

Thanks for letting me know. My APs are all ethernet backhauled so I don't use any repeater function. I should probably load on the open source drivers some day and compare range and speed/bandwidth which are the only 2 things I really care about. Have you (or anyone else on here) done any benchmarking between open source and mtk drivers?

@gyrex the only thing i really miss of mt76 is monitor mode. that should say all
we need stop here. LOL
i love test wifi radio, not for bad things, just on my devices.
i'm alone on this mountain. LOL

Thanks. However I use to do my own builds. Is there any "how to" I can refer to do my own OpenWrt build including the mkt drivers instead of mt76? Sorry if this was already posted, I tried to find in the thread but did not find it.

my repo is very nice for this device.complite

How does the router now work with a backup channel via WiFi?
How did it work? If the WiFi network to which the router is connected disappears, all other WiFi networks on this router that distribute the Internet inside the router network also disappear, and it is possible to connect to the router only via Ethernet, or wait until a backup network appears on the network?
In short - WiFi in this mode is not possible to use.

this router have dual band sistem, so you ll be always able to connect.only case you cannot if you have dhcp disabled

This is the commit that remove many of htcaps of 5Ghz radio:
