I have just installed OpenWRT on my XIAOMI AX3600 router. I had no problems with the installation.
Everything works fine, only the speed of my internet connection is capped. On the original firmware, I'm at around 956 mb/s, whereas with the OpenWRT firmware I'm capped at 550 mb/s maximum, so I can't go any higher.
I've tried tweaking a few settings, but nothing works.
That is about the maximum speed you will get from this hardware and OpenWrt.
The OEM firmware relies heavily on NSS based hardware offloading, which is not available on OpenWrt (you will find more detailed discussions about this topic via the forum search, use "ubicom32" and "NSS" as keywords). The current switchdev based networking drivers are very rough and basic, while there is a lot of untapped potential to improve those, that is not going to happen any time soon (or ever), due to the lack of hardware documentation and the mountains of work required.
I had already tested OpenWRT on this router 1 year ago when it was still in beta mode. I went back to the original firmware without too many problems. I hope it will be the same this time.
Question, I did some research on NSS and found several posts on the subject with screenshots of OpenWRT versions with NSS and speeds capping at over 900 mb/s.
Any chance then? Risk of installing custom firmware?
