Wyze mesh pro already running openwrt

The Wyze mesh pro is running openWRT already but a very lockdown version by Wyze. Could we please try to get support for these routers?

The Wyze Mesh Router Pro uses the Qualcomm immersive home 316 platform chipset. This chipset is designed for high processing capacity and acts as a hardware accelerator.

Chipset components

  • CPU: 1 GHz ARM Cortex A53 dual-core
  • RAM: 1 GB DDR3
  • Flash: 128 MB SPI NAND Flash

Wi-Fi technology

  • Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax with 6 GHz support)
  • Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
  • Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
  • Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n)
  • 802.11a
  • 802.11g
  • 802.11b
  • 802.15.4

Incorrect. It's using an OEM firmware, loosely based on a vendor SDK (qsdk), which in turn is loosely based on an ancient OpenWrt version - with everything that matters (kernel, wireless drivers, configuration system, webinterface and more replaced with proprietary stuff). Seeing some references to OpenWrt strings in there won't help you in the slightest to get real OpenWrt running on that device, as everything that matters is not OpenWrt and often closed-source.

OpenWrt currently has no support at all for ipq53xx, nor anyone working on it. While nothing is impossible, you'd have a steep learning curve in front of you to do the target bring-up (if you know what you're doing and would make this your new and only hobby, we'd be talking about months++, probably in the 2-3 year range).

The sensible solution would be to skip this product for something that is supported right now, respectively -if you're up for a reasonable challenge- a device based on a supported platform/ target (filogic 820/ 830/ 880, ipq807x, ipq60xx - maaaybe ipq50xx if you're up to joining forces with the pending PR that that new target).
Just for the avoidance of doubt, ipq50xx != ipq53xx. ipq53xx and ipq95xx should bear some family resemblance, but neither is being worked on at the moment.

it's IPQ5018, according to the internal photos at https://electric.garden/wyze-labs-2auiu/wyze-mesh-router-pro-wf6etbmra (FCC ID 2AUIUWF6ETBMRA).
