Wrt3200acm ModemManager + Wifi Issues

Okay. So im not reposting my question, more like troubleshooting 2 problems with my Netgear WRT3200ACM.

  1. I have an em20-g modem (its an engineering sample) installed into a cheap enclosure, then i detuned my system by cutting the mirror and run the 16ft long usb 3.0 cable to the Netgear Wrt3200acm. My goal with this project is connecting the modem to USB as my only internet connection. But I just literally asked this question but nobody seems to understand mbim or qmi protocol. I surely don't, but i was also told that i have a better experience using it in Qmi mode. But i created a ModemManager interface and it loads the modem, but the modem doesn't connect to the internet, at all, i changed the apn ahead of time but it still doesn't connect. I have a 3rd party Tmobile r15 (if im correct) but the service is coming from Human I-t but the sim comes from MobileCitizen. I took my T-mobile sim out of this Franklin T9 hotspot for this procedure but itll take atleast 1 minute to say the modem bearer in process. I have no idea about the at-commands for this modem anyway and im still stuck as far as how to get it connecting to the internet. Which leads me to my problem number 2.

  2. I wasnt fully aware that the latest version of openwrt supported for my router had wifi problems. I thought i had all 3 radios fixed. But Radio2 keeps causing conflict with Radio0 for it to not turn on since they'll both are two 2.4 radios. But for the wifi to work correctly all I saw in the forums to install the latest snapshot that might contain the wifi fix. But then everytime i go into the FirmwareSelector site to add luci, then it doesn't show up and when i flash it and get it connected to my computer, then i still can't get into luci through 192.168.1.1, but I'll still connect to ssh root@192.168.1.1, but it kinda took me a day just to flash back into the supported firmware, but im trying to figure out exactly what im doing wrong here, i will send screenshots from the router but i will also photos of how i want my setup to look. But ill need help with this, lol.

*And also an extra note, for the time being, I have the router connected to the franklin hotspot using only the 5g band until i figure this out because I'm practically miserable with this hotspot, and i don't actually like the idea of getting internet connection through the hotspot in that matter, but I kept both my router and hotspot close together just until i can get everything working right. I still kept my modem connected to the usb3.0 port and the router always detects it, its just not letting me connect to the internet when i put my sim card in, plus on top of the firmware related wifi issue. So help?

This will be a problem.

Modems are power hungry. USB is 5V (charging protocols don't apply here). Adapter regulators are rarely perfect. And the spike reducing capacitors are often too small. Your cable may have to deal with currents exceeding 1A. Find the resistance per ft and do the maths...

I thought it was too long also, but i noticed when i connect the modem itself to the router it still does the same thing. So in this case i don't think it's the cable

You did connect a couple of antennas to the modem?

Can you show us the output and logs from modemmanager?

okay but how do i do that?

let's start easy. Check the overall modem status using "mmcli -m" any. Depending on what we see there, we can look at the SIM status and maybe bearer status if there is one.

root@wrt1900ac-1:~# mmcli -m any

If that doesn't show anything useful, then try to connect and run "logread" to see if ModemManager logs anything interesting by default. If not, then we might have to crank up the log level

but when i do the 3rd part, it says

/root@OpenWrt:~# mmcli -b 3
error: couldn't find bearer at '/org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Bearer/3': 'not found in any modem'</
</root@OpenWrt:~# mmcli -b 4
error: couldn't find bearer at '/org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Bearer/4': 'not found in any modem'>/

And how do I run "logread"?

please use the </> button when posting code / cli output.

it's a cli command, like any other.

you mean this?

root@OpenWrt:~# mmcli -i 0 logread

This all looks fine, except that there's no indication the modem receives anything. And you didn't answer the antenna question.

Im not understanding but I said no i never used this with antennas.

It's a radio. It won't work without antennas

I thought the 7500 series modems have no firmware flash, they need a firmware booted into them from the host system at every power on. I could be wrong about that.

Yes as @bmork said, you need LTE antennas. There are little antenna jacks on the top end of the modem card (the end away from the bus plug, the end with the screw). Often an "LTE" enclosure has something built in but you still need to connect to the card.

T-Mobile's network is IPv6 only. The modem will not make an IPv4 connection at all. A psuedo dual stack within the router is possible using 464xlat. T-Mobile does support NAT64.

Oh okay i understand, so all i really need is sma antennas for it to work. Okay that's fine, i was thinking about buying a m.2 to usb adapter that has 4 antenna ports. but what about the firmware for the modem? It sounds outdated. SDX24.LE.1.0-00120-NBOOT.NEFS

This is an engineering sample of a modem that was never put into production. I don't think firmware upgrade is an option.

Anyway, there's nothing indicating any problems with the firmware in what you've shown us. It works as expected. Of course, the real test is to see it working with a signal. But if it crashes, then my bet is on the long cable.

What about the wifi problem? Radio2 keeps causing conflict with radio0

Don't try to use radio2. In the original firmware, it is a two radio router with radio2 not visible to the user-- it does passive monitoring for DFS.

Even at that, there are wifi problems which can't be fixed due to no support from the chip manufacturer. The WRT3200 is best as a wired only router.

Well i got it to work only if i remove the marvell sdio driver from luci.
