Their website seem to imply they Reverse Engineered drivers.
See: https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/faq#device_support
Additionally:
Broadcom never released the driver source code, so developers rely on binary drivers.
From: https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/faq#how_do_i_choose_a_build_build_naming_scheme
Lastly, I attempted to simply download the drivers from the Broadcom website - and I could, but when reading the License Agreement to accept, the legalese is somewhat vague and seems to imply:
- obviously - can only be distributed as object code (for laypersons, similar as saying the binary driver file)
- attempts to swap out an open source or be involved in reverse engineering
- all proprietary labels must remain intact
- they own, have rights, etc. to any device (or media) upon which this object code is stored - and ANY COPIES
- to terminate the license - you must destroy all copies (i.e no OpenWrt archive)
Then I thought to myself: "If there was a system crash and someone posted something
as bacic as the trace log involving WiFi...could we legally troubleshoot it e.g. in this forum...keep it posted, etc.?" ![]()
