Wireless Backporting

MAC80211 and Related Wireless drivers are always relying on the backports.
If we are supposed to use the mainline kernel, we may not need to use the backports.
For the vendors those who are maintaining the custom kernel (not upstreamed one) it difficult for them to generate the backports.

Is there any way to generate the backports from custom kernel or is there any way to get rid of the mac80211 backports.

Thanking you.

Backport patches are "just that". If you are running the latest kernel version, there is nothing to be back ported (obviously).

So depending on how "custom" (or old) the kernel is you are using you may, or may not need those patches. CFG80211 and MAC80211 are both in the mainline kernel. As for wireless drivers, it really depends on which driver and if you need those patches.

Can you "Generate" those patches for custom kernel: Yes of course you could, but since you ask this question here: I would answer "No", You can't. In which case, the best recommendation would be: stick with the backport (mac80211) packages to be assured you get the latest (and likely most secure) version for you wireless needs.
