Wireless AP Mode ("Wireless is not associated")

Hi, guys

I am trying set my router but I get trouble in my wireless connection, because it is shown as " *Wireless is not associated".

I am newbie in OpenWRT and need help with that.

I am here to learn, thus any tiny tip can drive me to study futher...

==== Router Specifications ====

My router data are as following:

Brand: TP-Link
Model: TD-W9980
Version: 1.0
OpenWRT product page
FW version: OpenWrt 22.03.3

==== Other notes ====

  • Only Client Mode is working;

  • I flashed the FW by using the " Web Interface Hack" option as described on OpenWRT product page;

  • Even the my router is TD-W9980 model, LuCI show it as TD-W8980 model. But the OpenWRT product page says both models are ALMOST the same and I used the fw as described there.

Thank you for any help!

It appears it is currently set to disabled. You need to set your country code, then the SSID, encryption type, and password. Then enable wireless and it should work.

If that doesn't work or you need more help...

Please copy the output of the following commands and post it here using the "Preformatted text </> " button:

Remember to redact passwords, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have:

cat /etc/config/wireless

Ok

config wifi-device 'radio0'
        option type 'mac80211'
        option path 'pci0000:01/0000:01:00.0/0000:02:00.0'
        option channel '1'
        option band '2g'
        option htmode 'HT20'
        option cell_density '0'

config wifi-iface 'default_radio0'
        option device 'radio0'
        option network 'lan'
        option mode 'ap'
        option encryption 'psk2'
        option key 'my_foo_pw'
        option ssid 'my_foo_ssid'

That keep showing me "Wireless is not associate"

Note: I also performed a "firmware reset" before to set what you asked me to. I've not change nothing other than that yet since reset.

Ok... this configuration looks okay... are you able to see the SSID being broadcast?

No. "my_foo_ssid" is not appearing

why you have only radio0? it's a dual band ath9k device? do you have phy1 too?

@anon4457646

Maybe because as the maintainer says in the OpenWRT product page, he was not able to make the 5ghz band to works with OpenWRT yet

ok, can you try

iw reg set BR
reboot

Done

result: still the same situation on LuCI :frowning:

iw reg get same as before?
have you selected a channel?

Yes. I set to auto, then I selected some channels.

try set txpower to 20 dbm
if that still not work try
iw reg set US

It's done ...
but it's not working yet

that's strange i really do not see problem in your config.
can you show system log? even from luci

also iw dev

looks like this firmware is not the right one where you get that

I download it from here

Do you suggest me reflashing it ?

If so, can I reflash it by upload on LuCI ?

i have no idea only now i read all the post, and i see you are using a firmware of another device, well i think the best option are try to flash again the same version of openwrt, or use an older version, or try the tplink 8970 version. note make sure you do not keep setting.
note this could be dangerous.

Okay...

I will try that out then and go back with feedback
