Which access point to buy to use OpenWRT

Hi everyone,
I would like to purchase an access point to use with my home router. Traffic going out of the AccessPoint (WiFi or cable) needs to go over a VPN and I would like to be able to use a fairly recent version of OpenWRT and that there is room for other packages to be installed (Policy Based Routing (PBR)).

Budget? WAX220 is mediatek filogic based so great wifi drivers, performance, OpenWrt support, small/flat for AP, etc.

For larger devices with switches look at GL-MT6000, DL-WRX36, E8450/RT3200, TUF-AX4200, etc. can config any of them as a dumb AP.

Is there any reason not to buy an OpenWrt One sample for this?
