What is difference IP ending 0.1 vs 1.1 and 2.1?

Having flashed AX3000T have just set up as a dumb AP with a lan cable back to a D-Link router not running OpenWRT.

I had not realised but the IP address for the D-Link is actually 192.168.0.1 and merrily followed the dumb AP guide and guest network guide but used 192.168.1.1 gateway and changed the AX3000T to 192.168.2.1.......

Wireless connections seem to work but I only noticed as I could not get into the AX3000T wirelessly after I had set it all up.so 4, hopefully straightforward questions -
1- Do I just go in and change all the 192.168.1.1 to 0.1 ?
2 - Do I leave the AX3000T Ip at .2.1?
3 - Do I need to do anything else to access the AX3000T via wi-fi?
4 - Why does it seem to work if the address is not correct?

all your devices in your network must follow the same addressing 192.168.1.x - x being unique for each device.
if you can't change the address of the non-openwrt device (d-link?) you can use the same 192.168.0.x addressing for all your device - with the same rule in place - X must be unique for each device (1,2,3...)

Because the wifi clients are only relayed to the router.
When you try to log in to the admin interface on the AP it is it’s own device with its own IP address.

What you want to do depends on what subnet mask you use.

But to be honest, you really need to google “IPv4” and read whatever tutorial you find, or watch a youtube movie about the subject.

Well the Openwrt guide on dumb access points tells you to change if 1.1 to 2.1 so that does not seem to tally with what you have said?

please post the link of the tutorial you are following

Which as stated is set to 192.168.2.1. I can access that with a lan cable but not via wi fi.

That is the same as the main router 255.255.255.0

can't seem to find any 2.1 address in this tutorial - all devices are in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet

Ahhh... I have just spotted I used 2.1 instead of 1.2.......

well there you go - keep the 192.168.1.x addressing

Well now I seem to be really screwed.....
Changed, or tried to, the main IP on the AP to 192.168.0.2 ......now cannot connect at all.
This is all using Luci.
Any suggestions how to recover?

Sidenote: this very much depends on the netmask, with a 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.NNN and 192.168.255.NNN live in different sub nets, with a netmask of 255.255.0.0 both addresses live happily in the same subnet. BUT if you are not setting things up from scratch under your control you might want to take into account which address ranges and subnets are already in use

0.1: This is an incomplete IPv4 address because it only has two octets. A full IPv4 address should have four octets. If you mean 0.0.0.1, it's a valid address often used for local network configurations. 0.0.0.1 would refer to a network address within the reserved range and typically isn't used in most standard network setups.

In my first post 192.168.0.1
Apologies as I abbreviated because it is only the last 2 where the issue is. As mentioned it was working seemingly ok on 192.168.1.2 (I had guest on 2.1 by mistake).
Trying to change the AP IP to 192.168.0.2 means I now have no access.

Yes thanks, looks to be the only option.
If I do this and get in can you tell me IYO to set up the dumb AP what IP address do i use for this router.
Based on access to my main router being 192.168.0.1.........not 1.1 as is assumed in the tutorial -
https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/guestwifi/guestwifi_dumbap

Then use 192.168.0.2

As long as you don’t already have something using that address.

Or tell the dumb AP to get an ip via dhcp
