- Quotes behave differently
- Pointed list as well
- Underline
- Copying/pasting code and output
Yes, editor is now ugly.
And the fonts changed strangely:
In the “Latest” listing that I use a lot, the discussion topic titles are now unbolded and seem much lighter and less prominent than the bold section names (that catch too much attention). That prominency is especially amplified on my Android tablet where the topic font is clearly lighter.
EDIT:
I think that also earlier the section text was maybe bold, but font was much smaller, or something similar.
I also noticed that this seems to affect only the desktop layout (and possible HiDPI horizontal tablet views. The vertical mobile phone view still properly shows the topic title with larger font than the section name.
Maybe not ugly, but certainly different.
It comes a a bit of a shock, but when you are used to typing your own markdown and embedded html Does it make a difference?
Where is the right hand panel showing what you typed actually looks like?
1\. A numbered list done manually
2\. no longer numbers the next item, instead it adds a blank line.
3. Then it screws up....
Sheesh...
WTF now I'm stuck in some sort of highlighted "box"
Have to scroll down and start a new line.
What about pre-formatted text. Enclosed in triple backticks… Lets see:
Begin here a sample of pre-formatted text My first triple backticks line went invisible Lets end the block of pre-formatted text with another triple backtick on a new line
```
It is broken... The `</>` symbol is highlighted... So maybe if I click it I can get out of this... I notice I can scroll down and click out of it, but lets click the `</>` Here goes...
Well that did not end well.
@brada4 It is worse than ugly ![]()
What about embedding html eg strikethrough:
“Struck Through Test”
FFS
At least emojis still work…..
EDIT: Heck, the strikethrough worked after I posted, but not in the edit screen
Lets try that again, an underline this time:
Underlined Text
I have to save the edit to see what it looks like for embedded html…..
EDIT 2: Nope, did not work. So some embedded html sort of works, but some does not…
![]()
Are underline tags actually removed?
Lets see, the following was typed with underline tags:
UNDERLINED PLEASE
So is there a menu option for underline? Not that I can see…
Ok, found the left hand symbol on the menu that turns on the "this is what it will look like" panel.
Underline
So yes, the html underline tags are removed.
Strike Through
But strikethrough tags are not removed....
What is removed and what is not?
And why does this line not have a preceding blank line ie new paragraph, where on other lines I just hit enter, like I did with this line, but no paragraph this time. What happens if I hit enter now?
Ah, still no new paragraph, not that I wanted one, but what if I did?
Two hits of enter?
Lets try it:
Well not a paragraph, but an actual blank line...
So it has somehow changed mode on me...
I have wasted enough time on this, sorry.
This happens to me if I don't pay attention [/u].
Also it seems underline auto ends at each sentence.
Oh wow, I haven't looked at a computer yet, just mobile.
Edit:
Look at the user menu too (and I also notice you can’t dismiss notifications).
Also, the edit box auto double spaces on Return/Enter now.
This is the most annoying "enhancement" of them all ![]()
Ok, un-mark a code sestion using keyboard only.
I’m not that crazy about the latest updates to Discourse either but hey - life goes on and so does their development. It has been my desire to keep this forum software up-to-date and where possible tailor it to our needs. If/when I find some time, I MAY do some CSS/font mods to restore some of the previous look, but don’t hold your breath. As always, if someone wants to volunteer to do some customizations, I will be happy to help with the integration.
@lleachii - the double-space <RET> behavior is not active in "Markdown" mode (click on the A in the upper-left corner.
Fair enough... thanks for doing this!
The new editor is totally broken for me using iPhone and quote and picture. Gave up amending a post.
@Lynx - Have you tried the legacy Markdown version - you can select either editor (Rich Text or Markdown). I can change the default composition editor but if I do, everyone's default will change. I think the selection you make however is sticky.
To anyone who finds something non-functional (broken) in the composition editor - please post your concerns to the Discourse developers here: https://meta.discourse.org/tag/composer or https://meta.discourse.org/c/bug
IOS there anyway to get a read only or text mode in Windows 7.
Apparently I need a “Modern” Browser.
Yeah, I know all the warnings, but this machine is what it is.
Kind of discourse locked down the topic in their discourse server. Use IRC or something or try a linux from USB stick.
I replaced an iPad Air 'cause IOS went EOL. You should still be able to navigate the site, but you can’t view rich content log in, or reply.
Discourse decided for the rest, there is nothing that can be done.
Maybe a User Agent spoof plugin.
