Vonet VAP11S dump (MT7620A)
Amazon is currently selling this device for $40, but in it's current state I wouldn't pay more than $10.
Vonet doesn't offer any information or firmware about this device.
I see OpenWRT supports the Vonet VAR11N-300, which is similar in functionality. The VAP11S uses a MT7620A vs a MT7620N, and has twice the ram.
I want to make this device worth what it costs. I hooked up a ch341a and dumped the firmware. I forgot how to extract the firmware, I'll probably get to it tomorrow. Here's all the information I have, and I'm hoping someone familiar with adding new devices could jump in as well.
The smallest default images currently vary between 6.5-7.5 MB, depending on the target (modern ARMv8 ones might be larger). I recently tried to build a stripped-to-the bones (no luci, no opkg, no PPPoE, no offloading, no nothing) ath79-tiny (yes, not the same target, but roughly comparable) and couldn't get it below 4.6 MB (kernel v6.1). 4 MB has been a dead end a decade ago, and became completely unsustainable half a decade ago.

Could I have stripped it down even further, probably, but the result wouldn't have been anything I would have had any use for - the recycling bin won.
Yeah I just built a stripped down one for another mt7620 the other day and it was 5.6MB. I do wonder though, there are some options in the menuconfig for LTO and remove unnecessary code that I couldn't get to work.
Maybe I'll pick up some soics and just upgrade it and do a custom build. It would be fun.
