Before declining this, I want to use this on an AP device not router. An OpenWrt router grabs like 6-7W of power. I don't want to buy a RPI, and I wanna try XFCE or even something lighter with XFCE. It could be a fun project.
Or should I just use Alpine Linux ARM64? I dunno.
While OpenWrt is a Linux distribution and it is theoretically possible to have it run a desktop environment, "practical" is so far apart from "possible" that you'd need a connecting flight.
Look at desktop Linux distributions and a suitable device instead.
No, I will try to use this.
Safe travels. Write us a postcard.
A suitable x86_64 thin client goes for 20-60 EUR on the second hand markets, if you play your hands well between 3.5-9 watts idle. Do not go below Atom j4xxx or Ryzen embedded r1xxx/ v1xxx, really, don't, no excuses; account for upgrades to >=8 GB RAM and >=64 GB -of a suitable- SSD (which also explains why none of the typical plastic routers suffice, very real software doubts aside).
