I am using x-wrt here, which is awesome expect some packages are too up to date and getting that from openwrt snapshot build. So nextdns package is 8 mb when on stable build it's around 2mb, So i want to use the nextdns package from stable branch with snapshot. And some packages too, So is there a way to use them?
nextdns 1.43.5-1 is in stable and 1.43.5-r1 on snapshot branch.
It appears you are using firmware that is not from the official OpenWrt project.
When using forks/offshoots/vendor-specific builds that are "based on OpenWrt", there may be many differences compared to the official versions (hosted by OpenWrt.org). Some of these customizations may fundamentally change the way that OpenWrt works. You might need help from people with specific/specialized knowledge about the firmware you are using, so it is possible that advice you get here may not be useful.
You may find that the best options are:
- Install an official version of OpenWrt, if your device is supported (see https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org).
- Ask for help from the maintainer(s) or user community of the specific firmware that you are using.
- Provide the source code for the firmware so that users on this forum can understand how your firmware works (OpenWrt forum users are volunteers, so somebody might look at the code if they have time and are interested in your issue).
If you believe that this specific issue is common to generic/official OpenWrt and/or the maintainers of your build have indicated as such, please feel free to clarify.
Okay, I am aware of that, that's why i mentioned. Okay So my real qus is "can i use the package from stable branch to snapshot build or branch?" I assumed yes i can but how any guide on wiki?
On LUCI > software, I am able to see this
but how would i use the stable repo's nextdns app to snapshot build version?
Or any easy way to do it?
OpenWrt wouldn't have information in its Wiki regarding package support on non-OpenWrt firmware. You woud have to ask them.
We wouldn't know how to install packages on an unsupported firmware. You'd have to ask them.
Yes i know this, I am talking about other qus here.
Again I am asking about openwrt here not about other firmware which is x-wrt or others.
detailed message = If you go to the https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org, which is a official site of openwrt, "You can actually find the openwrt versions, snapshot build or stable which is Version 23.05.4 right? So i am asking here Can i use the 23.05.4 version's a package on snapshot build which is more latest? Like i want to use a package from openwrt 22.03.7 in openwrt 23.05.4, just like downgrading a package or overriding a new package to it's old version.
And i've installed the openwrt official firmware again.
You can test that possibility, but it's not a supported use case.
Be advised that packages related to the exact Kernel version included with a certain OpenWrt may cause installation issues for you.
Are you having an actual issue with the packages bundled in a recent snapshot?
Well, I guess so, Because on snapshot build the package nextdns got updated and it is taking 8 MB for installation, But on older stable version 23.05.4 has the nextdns package which takes just 2 mb of flash. So right now i do want to use the snapshot and i also do want to use the nextdns package, So the best option is using the nextdns package from stable branch 23.05.4 openwrt on snapshot build.
No. Stable is on kernel 5.15, Snapshot is running on kernel 6.6.
if nextdns doesn't have any kernel dependenices, it might just work.
but we won't know, we know nothing about x-wrt.
Can you or anyone share the steps? I want to install the luci-app-nextdns and nextdns no matter what now, where is the package link or whatever? If needed i will install the packages from offline.
select the correct arch, if required, subarch, then go into the packages folder.
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.4/targets/
or, if available in x-wrt - https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/additional-software/opkg#adjust_repositories
I'm posting this reply for future members, How i able to install is downloading the luci-nextdns and nextdns app from the openwrt repo and uploaded though the luci UI to the router and install them. links & search nextdns =
https://mirror-03.infra.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.4/packages/mipsel_24kc/packages/
https://mirror-03.infra.openwrt.org/snapshots/packages/mipsel_24kc/routing/
well, post got closed before i post other one, But i am able to edit this, So
yes, it depends but i search a lot of links to find that i found nextdns package here not other repos so i posted the links. not like just on this link, just found them in 'mipsel_24kc/routing/' and 'mipsel_24kc/packages/'
It is mi 3c router. And it does not matter at all.
Deep links aren't very helpful, since they're arch specific, and you haven't even posted which device this was for.
in reality no, but with that info people will be able to extrapolate for which other devices your links are valid.
yes, the info can be found elsewhere, using the arch only, but it's easier this way.
