Use dnsmasq as authoritative DNS server

Is it possible to use dnsmasq as authoritative DNS server?
According to this answer[0], it should be possible, but when I try to follow the steps in the answer, I get

dnsmasq: authoritative DNS not available: set HAVE_AUTH in src/config.h

Is there any workaround for this?
I tried installing bind and knot to ram (didn't have enough disk space), since dnsmasq didn't work, but I found that I would get some linkage errors: error relocating symbol
