Usb Tethering functionality

Hey everyone
I live a real rural area all we have out here us dsl. So i have to use the hotspot from my phone over my network. I have an asus router that lets me hook my phone up with usb thethering. I want to make the switch to openwrt but i dont want to lose this functionality. Does openwrt offer this?

It does.

The USB phone driver packages are not included in a release build install however, so you will need another way to connect the router to the Internet temporarily to install them.

Ya i can hook it up the the dsl connection its painfully slow but it will work to download whatever i need to get it going.

We're talking about downloading a few dozens of KB here, so nothing that would stress a 14.4k analogue modem connection past the breaking point.

Or create a wifi hotspot on your phone, and have the router temp join it, to DL the files you need.

Well i thank everyone for the info but after a little more research come to find out theres not a firmware for my router bummer

You don't have to, there are alternatives if you cannot afford Starlink, such as a choice of numerous low cost routers with 4g modems onboard.

I too live in a remote rural area and was stuck with adsl for years.
Then 18 months ago the local cell tower finally got an upgrade from 2g to 4g so I bought a gl-inet x750 (there are many others to choose from), signed up for a Vodafone, unlimited data, sim only contract and went form barely 1Mb/s to 10Mb/s on a good day.

Now I can be out and about and still have Internet access at home without tying up my phone.
