USB camera over IP

I want to use a low resolution (1 megapixel 15 fps) USB camera remotely. Is it possible to use USB over IP with openwrt router as a server (5 MHz channel, or wired if required) and a windows client? Has anybody used USB over IP in this scenario?

Instead of trying to do USB over IP, have you considered just simply setting up a video streamer that uses the camera over USB and sets up an rtsp stream (which is, by definition, over IP)?

The application is not video streaming, it is a still shot capture. The device just has video camera. The windows application that comes with it snaps a picture when a button is pressed on the device. That signal is also passed on using the USB driver of the device. I just provided resolution to give the idea of bandwidth.

This link provides
steps (and seems to link Windows software): https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2024/09/share-usb-ubuntu-lan/amp/

  • You'll need to install the comparable OpenWrt packages (and USB packages)
  • You don't need to type sudo in OpenWrt

Hope this helps.
