and it has been supported ever since Kernel 4.19 in Linux but it is not automatically detected in Openwrt.

Did you install everything necessary?

Apparently it uses the Mediatek mt7610u chipset

Does this chip do AP mode?

The product site mentions only STA (client) mode:

RTL is a dead end, if you want to run them in AP mode.
