Unable to install kmod-usb-net-rndis

Using this image: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/td-w8960n_v5#installation:
openwrt-brcm63xx-generic-TD-W8968-squashfs-cfe.bin
for my TD-W8968 v5 (v3 images said to be compatible with v5)

My goal is to make USB tethering work so I can use my 4G USB modem but when I try to install either kmod-usb-net-rndis or kmod-usb-net-cdc-ncm I get:

root@OpenWrt:~# opkg install kmod-usb-net-rndis

Wrong thread?

no, did you read content?

It does not help me solve the issue.
It is also not a development snapshot, it is THE ONLY existing image for this router, from like 5 or so years ago. I cannot use any other as they will brick the router.
The problem aint going anywhere, no matter what terms do you throw around. Why did you even bother to reply if you have nothing of value to add?

true, but it explains it.

then why does the package URL point to the snapshot dir ?

then you're probably f-ked, sorry.

What the point of the bold word "FREEDOM" then, if you are as limited and as fucked as with official proprietary firmware in the end

You're barking up the wrong tree.

Call your congress person and ask them to push the hw vendors to commit to the open source license, they so happily steal from.

The vendor would be Broadcom, in your case.

It appears that no one volunteered to complete the porting for this model, so the preliminary snapshot that you're running is a dead end. However, the wiki notes that the hardware is similar enough to a Sagem FAST2704N that a release build for that model can be used, though with some cosmetic problems. Those issues are that the LEDs will not work and the ports are numbered wrong. But with a release build you will be able to install kmods.
