Trying recover from OKD on RT3200 and can't get UBoot menu

I'm following these directions, and mashing the down arrow throughout and never get a UBoot menu. However, I can hit f at that one point and bring up failsafe mode - should I just try one of the reset to factory commands there instead?

Your issue is all in the timing, or possibly in a bad connection to the header on the board. Sadly, you only have around 5 seconds from the time the fip successfully arrives at the router to the time it starts attempting a boot. Once it's started booting, you're back to the beginning again.

Try keeping a closer watch on things, and enable the serial console as fast as you can. Once connected, immediately start sending the '0' key until you get a prompt or it continues trying to boot. You might have missed the menu, but you can still send the selection to get into the U-Boot console. If you know you timed it right but it still keeps trying to boot, you may have a bad connection between the adapter's TX line and the router's RX line, or it's possible your terminal software may not be sending your keystrokes live. Some terminal programs won't send until you hit [enter]. You don't want a program with that limitation here.

Thank you, I re-wired all the connections but unfortunately this didn't change anything. This was in windows, so I tried in ubuntu (dual boot, same machine and serial setup) and it worked. The problem in windows was that there was no delay where I could hit a key. Using the command

mtk_uartboot -a -s COM5 -p bl2-for-mtk_uartboot.bin -f openwrt-23.05.3-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-ubi-bl31-uboot.fip && putty.exe -serial COM5 -sercfg 115200,8,n,1,N

and as soon as putty came up it was already in the boot sequence.

Anyways, glad my router seems to be recovered. Thanks everyone involved for the detailed instructions and help.
