TP-Link VR1600v WiFi support?

Hi,

I have a TP-Link VR1600v modem/router. I use it in Australia with the NBN so it's actually used as a plain ethernet/WiFi router, no use of its ADSL modem part.

Is there a version of OpenWRT I can install on it?

I'm already following the thread in Archer D7 support and it looks like they are close to having something useable but it's still in development?

My main goal would be to use it as part of a mesh network in the sense that client devices in my location will be able to seamlessly hop over to the best WiFi access point between it and the TP-Link Archer D7 on the other floor (which I'll try to switch to OpenWRT today). They are connected with wired ethernet between them.

While there is very little information about this device, it seems to be an all-Broadcom design - which usually means (in the best of all cases):

  • VDSL modem, unsupported
  • FXS (phone) ports, unsupported
  • DECT, unsupported
  • wireless, unsupported

Neither of these are likely to improve in the future either.
