TP-Link TL-R600VPN with OpenWRT/LEDE firmware?

I can't find any resources here that even mention the generally well-respected TP-Link TL-R600VPN wired router.
I would like the advantages of OpenWRT running as my VPN firmware, but am I barking up the wrong tree?

Yes, Realtek is a no go unfortunately
