Tp-link tl-mr6400 v5.3

Hi, I have a question about installing openwrt on TP-LINK TL-MR6400 V5.3. I see that the V5.0 version has OpenWRT support but I am interested if anyone has tried to install this firmware on a V5.3 router? My company uses this software on routers and I am looking for a replacement for my customers' current hardware. As I only have access to V5.3 I urgently need to know the answer regarding openwrt support for this model.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Same question here. Any answers?

ver Y.x is usually ver Y.

Update: I’ve installed latest version for v5.0 on my v5.3 and it works without any problem

Not sure if this is the right place to post this...
I installed OpenWrt on v5.2 and noticed it has only 2 MB of flash... the Wiki stated 8 MB for version 5.
I actually planned to install an openVPN client but with 2 MB that's not gonna work out :frowning:
Tought I leave this info here in case someone else stubles across it.

8mb is the total capacity, where do you think Openwrt sits ?

So I guess this means the numbers shown in LuCI are indicating the remaining space?
In case yes, is there any chance I can shrink the OpenWrt install by ~0.5 MB? I think this could be sufficient to install OpenVPN.

Correct.

If you don't need PPPoE, you could remove all ppp* packages in image builder, and add openvpn through it too.

That would be great, thanks a lot @frollic
I will give it a try :+1:

@frollic I have tried a build without PPPoE, but it only gives me additional ~120 KB... would you have another idea what packages could be omitted?
I e.g. think I will not need IPv6
The router will be standalone and only connect to 1-3 devices. I just need WiFi and openVPN.

Don't know how openwrt will behave if you remove the two ipv6 DHCP packages, but you can always try.

Isn't Wireguard an option, I think it's smaller than OpenVPN ?

Are you planning on using the modem ? If not, then you can remove the USB packages.

I have an OpenVPN server already running, so this is why I would prefer it. I am using the modem if this refers to using a sim card for internet access.
I will give removing IPv6 DHCP a try :crossed_fingers:

Doubt they will give you the extra space, but it's worth trying.

You were right, they did not give a recognizable amount of extra space...

wireguard is much smaller than OpenVPN…

For the archives, I installed OpenWrt without LuCI which left enough space to install the OpenVPN client.

I couldn't do this. Could you please guide my how to install it in my MR6400 (EU) v 5.3?
