TP-Link RE650 V2 - newbie flash question

Hi,

I have got a LinkSysy RE650 v2 running f/w 1.0.4 build 20210907.
device page: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/re650_v2

I think that the device page implies I can flash an image from the LinkSys OEM page.
But I also read on one post that a converter is needed or else I could brick the device ( RE650 flash via Putty :

Or can I use the image:

https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=23.05.4&target=ramips%2Fmt7621&id=tplink_re650-v2

and flash from the Linksys OEM upgrade page?

You have to flash "factory" image to move from OEM to openwrt, then use sysupgrade images to upgrade OpenWRT.
Best if you bring OEM device to defaults and power on fresh for upgrade.

Hi,

Thank-you brada4. I succesfully flashed the RE650.

However, I am stuck with the same problem as the stock firmware.

When the Linksys RE640 running Openwrt is not connected to my upstream edge router I can connect to the Openwrt RE650 on 192.168.1.1 and configure it.

But, as soon as I plug the RE650 running Openwrt back into the edge router, the RE650 is inaccessible, and my wifi devices get an IP address from the upstream edge router. This was exactly the same problem I had with the OEM firmware and the reason to install OpenWrt. I think this is something called MAC Proxy or something. This blocks me from adminstatering the Openwrt Linksys RE650.

Is there way to disable this type of behaviour?

Putty and serial is needed to revert to oem fw as per forum post you linked.

By default single ethernet port is configured in LAN network, so you need to prime up wifi and finalize configuration from there. According to your description specific stup is here:

Thanks again.

So my device has defaulted to a "Wireless Access Point - Dumb Access Point" configuration.

I just have to undo this so that I can get this device under proper control. This is because I need two SSIDs on the same 2.4Ghz interface.

Thanks for your help again brada4.

First do one VLAN, then try to figure out other. Probably keep another WIFI AP in current LAN to keep reset away
If you get stuck ask again in a new post.

Thx. Good idea about no touching one AP.

First do one VLAN, then try to figure out other.

I did not understand this bit. I had hoped it would be easy

Just add one accesspoint with local access whilevsetting up rest
