have the tp-link ec220-G5 Firmware v3.8 and to my "SURPRISE" TP-LINK removed the WIFI Repeater function and it is exactly the function I need because I have no internet and as the city hall here in the FAVELA where I live has an antenna FREE WIFI but the problem is that the signal via the WIFI Adapter didn't have enough range so I had to buy this "Wi-Fi Router 5 Gigabit Dual Band AC1200 TR-069" and now there is no way to return it as it is not DEFECTIVE and for To make matters worse, I can't buy another one because I'm unemployed... (it took me another 4 months to be able to buy this one!) Can someone help me! DESPERATE HERE! without money to buy another one and without being able to get the FREE WIFI signal from the city hall.. thank you in advance for any help!
This device doesn't appear to be supported by OpenWrt. The v2 is supported in snapshot, but not v3.x -- I wouldn't recommend flashing the firmware for a different device version unless you can be certain that it will work (it could brick the unit if not).
With that said, I think you'll probably need to ask TP-Link for help unless you can install OpenWrt.
First of all, I sincerely thank you for your response.
I live in Brazil, and unfortunately, the chance of TP-LINK helping me is extremely remote. Here, companies often ignore consumers' needs. Before purchasing the product, which I bought with great difficulty due to my financial situation—I am unemployed and without resources—I checked the TP-LINK website. The PDF manual I downloaded clearly stated the "WIFI REPEATER" function, with no "NOTE" indicating that it would not work on firmware version 3x.
In other countries, this could even lead to "COMPENSATION." However, in Brazil, the reality is different. Consumer protection is practically nonexistent when it comes to large companies. I am desperate and without alternatives, and the lack of support only increases my frustration. I deeply appreciate any help you can offer.
I don't have any help to offer, unfortunately. I am not at all familiar with the TP-Link firmware and I cannot say if the OpenWrt builds for v2 hardware will work with (or damage) your v3.8 device.
That said... let's actually make sure we're talking about the same version... can you share a picture of the info sticker on your device?
Thanks again for your attention! I hope the manufacturer's label is legible because my cell phone is a Moto G7 Play and the camera does not have a good resolution.
Thanks for sharing the photo. This does look like the hardware revision is v3.8, so I would not recommend attempting to install OpenWrt since only the v2 version is known to work.
I'm afraid you'll have to find some alternatives.
Thanks again for your help you are a good person for trying to help me!
I would like to know if there is any way to identify the chipset or access the datasheet of the EC220-G5 router through SSH or Telnet, without the need to open the device, as this would compromise the warranty. Any suggestions?
I have no idea what that device has in terms of ssh/telnet or other methods of discovering the chipsets.
You can search for regulatory filings (like FCC and similar) -- maybe that will reveal some information.
