I'm not sure if this problem is exclusive to this router, but the snapshots being built daily by OpenWrt are having an issue which doesn't allow packages to be installed. Just upgraded two routers with the latest snapshot and both were unable to install luci, I made sure to upgrade each router individually. One was upgraded through TFTP since it was new, and teh other which has been steadily been updated through sysupgrade for a few months, and manually installing luci was faced with the same problem. Thankfully for @julianocs builds... to the rescue.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the output except that it doesn't install:

Hello. Can you build also for WR840N v5? Not only for v4. Thank you

Hello @d666anggel

WR840 v5 has only 4 Mb flash, my builds does not fit on it.

Can you share your source code build somewhere on github maybe? I'll try compiled by myself with needed packets.

Yeah, best lose your hopes. It is extremely difficult to pack a decent firmware into such short space.
I remember I couple months ago phoning a dozen vendors trying to get supply for TL-WR841N v13, it's the only version of the model with 64MB RAM and 8MB flash, everything other version is half that.

That being said, I did put a v10 (4MB flash and 32MB RAM) to good use at one point so maybe you could give it a shot... @d666anggel get a WR840N v5 snapshot from here: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/ramips/mt76x8/

Of coure, these snapshots only have the core firmware, apps and user interface will have to be installed manually, and you'll have to choose very carefully what you install because the 4MB are a very strict limit.

Thank you. I understand, this is very small flash. I use wr841 with 4MB flash. But for WR840 i need only stable drivers for MTK WiFi. Build from julianocs for wr841 v13 very stable for WiFi, and this is cool.

@d666anggel

What is your email?
I can send the latest driver to you.

Just remembering ... I'm not the driver developer, just a "tester".
All merits are those involved in the mt76 project ( https://github.com/openwrt/mt76 ).

Hi,

Do you guys think it's fixed now?

Same question from me, is it recommended to get this device in this state, or should I rather wait / go with another device?

Your problem is quite different.

v13 has 64 MB RAM and completely different SoC compared to your v9.

I know. My question was, whether it is worth to get v13 currently. However I noticed that there is already v14 out there, so it will be hard to get v13.

v13 will be probably very hard to find at this point, and v14 is pretty worthless due to its limitations. I would say to try and find another device. The usual struggle is to get a decent device with good OpenWRT support that is still in shops. You can try eBay if all else fails.

Yep, that is what I am currently doing

Hello, Juliano!
Your builds are great!
Couldn't you write the packets you added besides the standard ones?
Thank you!

This "great" builds are only build from master with a up to date mt76 driver.
This driver is also updated regularly on the official snapshot builds.
