Rangeley is a good thing, if you compile a custom build with Intel QuickAssist you can have a very high performance OpenVPN router (it works much faster than AES-NI). However just as other Avoton/Rangeley, the Atom C2000 family has CPU bug that might die anytime (I already have 1 dead motherboard)

I've got lasy time Lenovo thinkstation M920Q with i5-8500t 32 giga of ram and 2TB nvme ssd with mellanox cx4 dual 25gig im nice money, very nice setup. iI've pit esxi with openwrt on vm , lighting fast setup.
what's your daily power consumption ? 
This one sips something between 20 to 60W with big load, most od the time below 20W from the wall. I have few vm on it and don't have it on power meter. With pfsense running the load is slightly over 20W.

The 5x0 is using an (previously) unsupported chip, making it impossible to use the ethernet ports.
SFP ports would still work though.

I'd look at the Dell Edge E42W 6x0 series instead, but skip the 610 model, they're the same as the VEP14xx, but the 6x0 are a lot cheaper on eBay.

I wouldn't but anything with USB2 ports only, today.
It kind of tells you the minimum age of the hw.
