The opkg update command failed with code 7

I am a novice, I would appreciate some help please.

I am using WRT1900ACS V2 , Powered by LuCI openwrt-24.10 branch (25.313.53093~ae2aec8) / OpenWrt 24.10.4 (r28959-29397011cc)

By using OpenWrt wiki, I have installed a USB drive as internal storage and installed adguard home. Now I cannot update software. When I rung opkg update I get code 7 error.

Following is the output

Thanks in advance

Probably you disabled local dnsmasq during adguard setup.
Or it just ate all memory and useful packages crashed.
Normally one would use luci-app-attendedsysupgrade to upgrade etc.

Can you point to exact wiki articles you used?

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I used these three links. Regards the memory, I used an external usb disc to install the adguard home. See enclosed picture, there is quite a bit of ram still left.

Please help!

try AdGuard Home, opkg and ping on router not working - #7 by frollic.

Based on the first item, Operation not permitted, I might suspect IPv6 related problem, where you have IPv6 DNS working, but no actual IPv6 connectivity. The default lightweight wget "uclient-fetch" has trouble with that. Could be solved by installing full GNU wget-ssl from USB stick. That package has better fallback from IPv6 to IPv4.

Other possibility is missing / misconfigured DNS and gateway. (based on wget error 4, check connectivity)

Thank you frollic.

Please excuse the stupid question, but how do I edit the entry to add '127.0.0.1' in this configuration file?
Thanks

vi, or winscp if not fluent in vi, but running Windows.

or GNU "nano" editor, which I find more user-friendly than vi. But you would need to install nano with opkg

Thank you all for the help — it’s now fully sorted.

For anyone facing the same issue, here are the steps I followed:

  1. Disable the AdGuard Home service under System → Startup (important, otherwise changes won’t be saved).

  2. Use WinSCP to log in to your router.

  3. The AdGuardHome.yaml file is located in the /etc folder.

  4. Right-click the file, choose Edit, and under DNS bind hosts, add:

    127.0.0.1

  5. Save the file.

  6. Restart the AdGuard Home service.

  7. Reboot the router.

Once again I am grateful to the community for prompt help.
Best Wishes

not trying to be picky, but if you do 7, you don't need to do 6 (or the other way around)
