In the end I installed fw for HH40V on HH41V. I did not do any tests, I'm writing this just after successful openwrt boot on HH41V. I have set some basic network config via uart and accessed luci via LAN1 port.

Orange led for LAN1 is stuck on.

Bboot log from HH40V openwrt image running on HH41V will be in reply because it can't all fit in one post.

In Network->Interfaces->Devices:

  • eth1 is lan1
  • eth0 is lan2/wan
  • usb0 is modem

Both ethernet interfaces report as "connected" but in reality only eth1 is conencted.

I wanted to desolder cans on bottom and next to SoC to see other chips but gave up and decided to try HH40V openwrt image.

Looks like an ordinary ath79 system, which should be supportable - doesn't mean it's going to be trivial, but I don't see anything really problematic either. Now it's just to you doing the porting.

I will try, sadly I'm pretty new in all this. I'm going to leave as much documentation here as I can. Porting should be pretty easy. Hard part is learning how openwrt is written and how to port it (only thing I did was building custom 19.07 image for wr740n).

Is 4g modem supported or not? For me its not deal breaker, this device can act as powerful ap / layer 3 managed "switch". It's waste to throw it away. If 4g works I'm gonna be happy

Many 4g/ LTE modems can be made working, details depend on the device in question and the kind of management interface they have. Just in general, these modems are pretty much independent/ isolated devices, doing all the LTE connection handling themselves, they're pretty much only sharing the same case and power supply with the underlying router SOC (that is a bit oversimplified, but still not far from the truth). You can (and should) totally ignore it for a start, just get the router itself working - once that's done, what's left is 'just' an LTE modem on the USB bus.

I'm currently using it as dumb AP with multiple SSIDs and VLANs. So far its stable like this. Modem does not work

Modem is probably the same as HH40V: rndis with no way of setting APN and other settings.

which software did u use to flash openwrt

I just followed instructions for HH40V and installed firmware for HH40V
