[solved] Ipv6 not working via router

So you mean to say, ipv6 is assigned by my ISP router while ipv4 is served by openwrt?

Could be. That's what I have here and it's probably unusual but my ISP "box" does not give prefix delegation.

Yes, that's correct. IPv6 eliminated the need for routers to need local private addressing. There's enough IPs to simply route (or relay) downstream instead of Network Addresses Translate (NAT) as done with IPv4.

OK I just checked ISP router, there's no new entry in Lan clients section, no IP given to pc.

Your reply is confusing

We meant your ISP, not some ISP device.

Also, we established DHCPv6 is not used on Androids and I thought you were connected to the OpenWrt.

So your response is confusing.

Out of curiousicity, are you able to eliminate your ISP router?

No, it's some proprietary device that functions as modem + router combined.

Can you make it function as only a modem?

This is usually called "bridge mode" on said devices.

Lastly, did you see my comment about relay mode - did you ever try setting up the OpenWrt as normal?

You mean in server mode? I did try that and it resulted in same that's why I shifted to relay. Could you describe correct way of setting it up normally?

I don't really want to mess with it just to have ipv6. besides all my wireless devices connects to ISP router so no problem.

  • Default OpenWrt
  • Connect WAN port
  • Connect device to LAN
  • Done

This is usually how, no relay, no special configurations, no relay setup, no altered interfaces, etc.

I am in a very similar situation. I have a "SFR Box 8" connected in fibre on the wan side and Ethernet on its LAN side.

Then on the OpenWrt LAN side I am in double NAT for IPv4 and in relay mode in IPv6 (like you).

You have defined your wan ipv4 address as static but the wan6 IPv6 address should come from that box your ISP gave you. In mine, there is a DHCPv6 server page and I have DHCP disabled and SLAAC enabled.

Can you find something like that in your "box" ?

BTW - a DHCPv6 Server is required to have a working prefix delegation.

(It seems the OP could try that.)

You mean this?

Yes, thank you. I spent weeks trying a lot of things but never got a PD. So relay was the only way to go and it was confirmed by other SFR (the ISP) customers that PD was not available from their box firmware.

Yes, it seems its already sed to stateless, I would test stateful.

Hopefully, you get a Prefix Delegation.

Great, looks good. For a working "default" OpenWrt IPv6 config, you already have Prefix Delegation enabled.

And additionally - needs to be set to stateful.

It seems it's already stateful? when I see in wan information page.

For wan side there's different page.

I'm glad you showed this!

  • On the first screenshot, let's set the IPv6 Prefix Length to 61

Hopefully, this will give you a Delegation on OpenWrt and you don't need to relay the /64. It should work as normal.

Do not alter WAN IPv6, it's OK.

OK?
server mode stateful or stateless?
