Router as switch & AP (works) - how to connect to download packages?

Hi all,

These are my first steps with OpenWrt and networking past the basic stuff, so I'll hope you will bear with me. Any help is appreciated.

Using instructions on OpenWrt.org I have turned an 'old' TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v2 router in a switch (link) and bridged Access Point (link). This works well.

But now I want to take it one step further and see if I can use this router as an (Wireguard) VPN server. I am however stuck at the step on downloading packages. From the router itself I have no route to the internet (I can ping to IP's within my network, but not outside). This is probably quite trivial, but I can't seem to find the right information to do this. Can someone point me into the right direction?

Got to the interface settings of lan and enter gateway and dns ip address.
This is normally the ip of your router with internet connection.

Thanks @juppin!
I had the gateway address correct, but no DNS IP address. :upside_down_face:
